Reasons why I have to believe that Kato will time skip us to 2 years in the future with dark Rin, idol Shima and the Illuminati becoming the new world order. Aka I’m ranting because as the next/final chapter of this arc gets closer I am ever reminded why i don’t like aoex Reddit.
1. Illuminati and new world order are already titles that exist and would make sense to reference since the Illuminati and The Order already exist and the Illuminati taking over the order would be a perfect fit for that.
2. Mephisto did his coco cola bottle routine to plug the hole in space and time thus preventing it leaking into the current state of affairs meanwhile Rin believes he saw something but bails talking about it leading to Mephisto wondering if he saw everything but doesn’t push. Look at the first 14 pages of chapter 140, that first page is Rin floating in the same unstable temporal space as Mephisto. It’s Mephisto talking to Rin and telling him to wake up as he grabs him. Rin was present for that whole thing. Then we immediately cut to Yukio. Same on page 13, it’s Mephisto asking Rin if he had a bad dream, obviously referencing the spillage of the future. Look at mephistos face, he knows that Rin knows something. It would be pretty weird if Kato ignored that happening and left that string untied. Especially considering that Rin is now trying for both sides to live in harmony despite Yukio and Igor’s strong suggestions otherwise.
3. If it was a “nightmare future” meant as an omen that Mephisto/Rin fears would happen even though he’s trying to be good then I could see that as a possibility IF that magical girl hadn’t appeared. But she did and Rin nor any of the others know her and have never seen her or referenced her. That’s why I can’t believe it was a nightmare/ scary dream omen and nothing more because how would rins mind conjure up a girl he kills who he’s never met before.
4. There was a 4 month hiatus between chapter 138 and 139 (the first part of the 2 part future skip). At that point in time Kato was going through health issues (if memory recalls correctly) that caused her to take off from the manga for a bit so why would she waste her time painstakingly writing and hand drawing up 2 chapters of aoex lore IF SHE WEREN’T GOING TO USE IT LATER.
5. This is obviously the prophecy trope. Someone sees the future and its bleak and awful so they try to do everything in their power to prevent that future from happening but it’s actually all of their attempts to stop it, that is exactly what leads to the future becoming awful.

Anyway that future time skip IS happening after July 3rds chapter, I will bet my entire account on that (I say while chewing my nails). The final arc will be dark! Rin vs evil order vs everyone else and the next chapter hopefully is long enough to explain how and why everyone but Shima and Rin are missing. What’s behind the door paku found shining in the dark is the rest of the missing gang falling through. Something will happen to Shiemi, possibly what tips Rin over the edge. Thank you for coming to my ted talk, I wish you, dear reader, were that one bastard Redditor who snuffed me from the forum for saying exactly all this then blocked me so that they could complain about me to others who said the exact same thing in other threads. They are still active to this day and are the number 1 commenter under every post so I can’t even scroll the Reddit without seeing inaccurate comment numbers on every post when engagement is already abysmally low.
Say it with me now, it’s not bad character development for a character to go from an up then back to a down again. Especially if they’ve done it before, ESPECIALLY if something extremely terrible were to happen to that someone he loves who he JUST SUCCESSFULLY CONFESSED TO AN HOUR AGO.
