I'm fully entranced by DarkBat now unfortunately for everyone else. Vesper has nobody to guide her through the hunger and the fear when she gets turned because she isn't traditionally sired. Until she meets an older vampire who tells her that not only is she not alone but that she doesn't have to lose herself to embrace the night. He's a 'superhero' but more than that he's kind enough to at least try to find ways to turn his vampirism towards protection and care and justice and she's in her 20s (still at that point most probably) and he's explaining to her where to bite precisely for the most efficient exsanguination and showing her his stupid moon wings thing (which she thinks is so awesome btw) and they're not exactly the same but they're so similar where it counts.
And maybe there's a fantasy in her head that in a different world he's the one who sired her so that she didn't have to be all alone for all that time. And he picks her up out of the swamp she's in and gives her purpose and hope and companionship and they're the two most visibly 'monstrous' of the party members but they don't shy away from each other. And they're the two most dedicated to doing good and they've stuck together for years. (And years isn't that much if you're someone like Madelaine but Vesper was 21 when her life was stolen and years is still plenty.) And eventually any minor thing that dares threaten that partnership makes her irrationally angry because he's HER sire superhero and on god she's going to be his sidekick.
Anyway you can't tell me she's not really weird about him
