For the trope meme: Character A is used to the worst and is constantly surprised by how caring and gentle Character B is with them

I'm usually pretty into this, with some caveats? In general I really like the whole "my background is so terrible / weird that I have no fucking idea what normal / caring behavior is WHAT IS THIS SHIT!"

The main circumstance this breaks down for me is when I don't believe it -- the trope inherently casts some serious judgement on everyone Character A has been close to in the past, so sometimes I'm too busy being annoyed on their behalf to enjoy the fic. E.g. "What do you MEAN no one showed Megatron love before Optimus, Soundwave was right over there!"

Could you please tell more about your take on SG megop? Like, what is the story in your head? What is their relationship like?

Oh, alright!

Generally speaking when I first started thinking about “SG Megop” aka these two:

I didn’t really have it clear that the ones we usually see around are supposed to be the direct parallels of G1 megop. When I discovered that, I had to rethink the SG universe as a whole. Those two designs above are now mostly used (in my head) for an IDW SG megop, and it dawned on me that every single continuity would have a different shattered glass megop. Which is Cool As Hell because it means double the fun for the ship dynamic!! 🥰

But for example, TFP SG would have a high fantasy vibe a-là Tolkien to me, with Optronix being a war strategist in an oppressive regime, while Megatronus is some kind of manager for the Gladiatorial fights. They become friends, Megatronus is a very clever, kind of soft spoken but extremely stubborn mech, while Optronix generally doesn’t show much emotions but develops a sort of possessive affection towards Megs. 

Since Megatronus ends up being linked to uprisings because of his public speeches, Optronix tries to vouch for his pardoning to Alpha Trion, the highest ranking mech as keeper of the Matrix and Optronix’s master. But what do you know, the Matrix feels Optronix is worthy of him and demands his body. So basically Megatronus gets his scars when he’s trying to help his friend out, Optronix slashes him with his claws, since he’s falling too deep into the Matrix’s lure, without meaning to. The Matrix gets a hold of him and transformrs Optronix into Optrimus Prime, a Literal God who has no interest in individual Cybertronians, but to the species itself and doesn’t recognise Megatronus. The plot here would be Megatronus trying his best to free his friend from his body’s prison, either by killing him or convincing a God to put down the Matrix lol

I mean I did think a lot about this because I had started writing something for it...

For TFA SG Megop I had an extensive talk with Cissy and it would be interesting to see TFA SG OP being at the top of the game, Magnus in a goddamn coma and he’s just a competent but lazy enforcer of the Autobot rules which are... actually, democratic? You know???? TFA???? With the Autobots being a kinda-dictatorship and all??? so THE SG AUTOBOTS ARE ACTUALLY pretty good?? I did not think much about it, but Megatron would be an idealist fighting for an utopia basically and he’d probably get captured at some point. OP would shrug his shoulders and be “yeah I mean you can stay if you behave” and idk antics ensue? 

G1 SG Megop is just op being a naughty old man and megs is a resolute yet awkward old man. lol ??? cute???

ok look TFC SG Megop is too powerful for me, if Tfc megatron is my tsundere boy then Tfc Sg megatron is moe? I don’t know ok. He’s probably a very cute boy. Damn me if Tfc Sg op could be a flirty jokster. a JOCKster. oh god

Well, I can admit that I also have some secret bookmarks. Sometimes it's because i don't want people to know I like that particular fic if it has some parts that I really love but don't agree with the rest. And sometimes I don't want the author to know I'm reading their stuff (for different reasons). So who knows?

Yeah I have a few secret bookmarks myself, mainly because there’s a growing tendency in fandom to see enjoyment of something as an endorsement and I can’t be bothered dealing with that, so I privately bookmark some of the more weird/transgressive stuff I like.

Autobots and Decepticons may only be two factions of a single race of mechanical organisms, but their cultures within the ranks of the respective armies varies wildly. Hi! I've just read your new story and I adored it. But the ending kind of left me uncomfortable, so I wanted to ask you. Does the fact the Decepticons in that au didn't have the "love component" mean that they are really murder machines physically incapable of love? I'm still in the process of reading the megatron/cyclonus story, but "Champion" didn't give me that impression. I know you wrote all your fics are separate aus, but this con-only inability to feel empathy really bothered me.

So Fraternization is a story spun off the underlying concept (from I think Five Faces of Darkness) that the Decepticons were designed specifically as military units. I do find it entirely likely that if someone was building military robots to kill people (pro tip: BAD IDEA :P), they would try to reduce empathy and replace it with things like internal loyalty to your fellow soldiers and taking pleasure in violence. This story posits one extremely successful version of that. 

But that isn’t my headcanon of Decepticons in general and doesn’t go for the other stories. I really don’t have any headcanons that I stick to; mostly my stories get generated because I have questions about canon and then I write stories that answer those questions in all the different ways I can think of. Champion is another “Decepticons as military mechs” universe where they’ve been designed not to mind violence but where they also have love and empathy in spades (of course many of the Autobots in Champion probably don’t believe they do). 

That said, even in Fraternization, just because First Aid doesn’t recognize Decepticon camaraderie as love doesn’t mean it’s not. It does probably mean that the Autobots’ chances for peace with them were very small, though, so I don’t think he’s wrong to be happy at the end!

3. Have you ever unfollowed someone over a fandom opinion?

Yes, absolutely. I won’t mention any names, but I have a big problem with people that overly patronize Starscream. As in, they treat him like a helpless little victim and go to extraordinary lengths to embarrass themselves about it.

10. Most disliked arc? Why?

There’s many. I don’t think there’s any iteration of TF that satisfied me, ever, even TFP didn’t come close. The content is either too tailored for child consumption (and yes, I count TFP as that, because of the depiction of ‘good and evil’, the annoying-ass humans and the lack of adult interaction for the Cybertronians. Which isn’t the show’s fault, I just want robots to touch each other).

I have a strong dislike for TFA, even though it has some of the cutest Optimus moments in it and I can occasionally enjoy me some teenage Prime. But everything else? Hard pass.

Then there’s other extreme, which is the gritty grimness of Bayverse and that sucks just as much ass. At least when the shows are made for kids, the robots get to be people, albeit limited in their maturity etc. In Bayverse? Just something for the humans to stand next to in scale, and also to explode and die for shiny effects.

This is why MTMTE hit me so hard in terms of disappointment. It had the potential to combine the fun with the interesting. And it failed spectacularly.

I already touched on the Redemption Arc of Megatron. I still have more salty T about it, but you and I have visited that well many times ;D

24.Would you recommend Transformers to a friend? Why or why not?

I would always recommend Transformers to anyone and everyone. The vastness of the universe(s) is famous for dislodging other fandoms, and there is a sense of peace, I feel, across the realms. With so many giant robots, everyone can play in their own corner.

For canon material, i would recommend TAAO, even though it’s been cancelled, just for a taste of the most interesting part of post-war storylines. OP fucking around on Earth is hella boring, though I did like his contemplation of himself, his position and Megatron, but with all the GI Joe shit and the terrible art, its a struggle to stay interested. MTMTE/Lost Light has let me down as hard as YA2 did back in the day, so I won’t be recommending it to anyone, ever. Thanks JRo.

The only reason I wouldn’t recommend a form of Transformers content to a friend would be that they’re not really my friend and i don’t want them to enjoy what’s good in life.

27. Least shippable character?

The BAIT! There’s so many people that fit the bill here, and I think I have personally ranted about each of them to you. So let’s make a bunch of attempts, shall we?

Nickel - Whilst Nickel doesn’t have any of the problems that I see with the other characters on the list, it is her role and her surrounding cast that prevent me from seeing her as shippable. She’s got a strong mom vibe and not in the fuckable way. 

Ratchet - He’s Bones. As in McCoy. As in, watch Star Trek OS and look at Ratch go. He is the quintessential, grumpy old-but-well-meaning man who has a heart of gold once you scrape of 10,000 layers of grouchy rust. He’s seen it all, and he’s over it. Imo, he’s too tired for that romance shit.

Rung - if only because he’s about as interesting as watching paint dry and I’d rather wear Vos’ face than force myself to think of who to ship him with.

Minimus - this is just personal. Maybe it’s the size. Maybe it’s the moustache. But I cringe hard when I see him shipped with anything. Maybe he resonates too hard with the ace in me.
