You know the timeline is fucked when the guy I watched when I was 14 and thought it was edgy, now evolved into a progressive man. Like damn bitch, true growth
Power Corrupts (Part 1)
@the-ravenclaw-werewolf
Hey there, I noticed that you were answering some comments on chapter 39 of Main Character Syndrome yesterday, and hoping that you could answer these questions regarding The 40′s reaction to the first episode of Power Corrupts. (Given that nearly all the characters came from Japan and the country’s secular standpoint regarding Real-life religions, except Okumura Rin being raised in an unspecified denomination in his series)
Note: These questions are purely for secular entertainment and not to bash Real-life religions.
- How do you think The 40 would react to Yahweh waking up and getting ready for school?
- How do you think The 40 would react to Joseph verbally berating his son, excusing his actions of being “tough love”, and admonishing his wife for being “soft” (i.e. kind) on their son?
- How do you think The 40 would react to Yahweh taking his anger out on his younger sibling by yanking the rattle out of their hand and throwing it against the wall?
- How do you think The 40 would react to Yahweh being pressured by his father to pass his flying test (future equivalent to driving test) since Joseph’s license won’t be renewed after its expiration date as the medical states that the latter is too old to be driving in the sky and could cause an accident.
- How do you think The 40 would react to Yahweh going from polite and submissive around his father in one scene to an extorting bully on a “nerdy classmate” in the next one?
- How do you think The 40 would react to Jeffery helping the student being extorted by Yahweh by yanking away and throwing him to the ground?
- How do you think The 40 would react to Jeffery telling the nerdy student to not worry about paying him back, the latter’s surprise by stating that “Yahweh would hold it over [his] head forever”, and Jeffery replying that maybe “[he’s] not as unforgiving as...Yahweh.”?
- How do you think The 40 would react to the nerdy student deciding that he wants to pay Jeffery back regardless of the latter’s charity out of sincere gratitude, Jeffery lightheartedly agrees but tells him that he can do it when he can, and seeing the subtle karma at work in the narrative?
- How do you think The 40 would react to the nerdy student telling Jeffery why he owes Yahweh 20 credits; protection from him, and Jeffery’s annoyed sigh as if saying “Of course”?
- How do you think The 40 would react to the Social Science teacher explaining the final exam to the students in two ways; society hangs in the balance and that they’re unprepared no matter how much they’ve studied?
- How do you think The 40 would react to the Social Science teacher’s explanations of how their current society has been shaped into the peaceful one it is today despite numerous significant complexities and nuances by summing it up in two words: “Power Corrupts”?
- Do you think The 40 would agree with the Social Science teacher’s explanation of how people throughout history have used the idea of God to take advantage of others by “acting as God’s mouthpiece when it was the other way around?”
- Do you think The 40 would agree to the idea of a societal test being used to test the students, including Yahweh, if they’ll be fit to lead their society or forever take the orders of their betters by putting them in a virtual simulation with ultimate power; the belief that they are God, they created the universe, they know everything, and they are all-powerful, and having none of their previous memories during the test?
- How do you think The 40 would react to Jeffery having the displeasure of monitoring Yahweh and vice-versa?
- How do you think The 40 would react to the intricacies of the test; the fact that while all of the current memories of the person’s life are erased, the only thing left in their new identity as God is their subconscious memories?
- How do you think The 40 would react to Jeffery winking at the screen for some reason before going into the simulation to monitor Yahweh?
- How do you think The 40 would react to the powerful transition of Yahweh becoming God and him proclaiming to “let there be light” as the episode ends?
- Do you think The 40 would agree and disagree on the final message of the episode:
Omniscience
No mind - no matter how powerful - could ever honestly claim to be free from deception, or unknown unknowns.
- Do you think The 40 would notice that all the things that are seen throughout the episode play a role in Yahweh taking on those traits as God? (Especially if you just know the broad strokes of the Bible)
Example by one youtube commenter: “First of all his mom who is the only nice person to him I'm assuming where's that floating circle thing around her head which Yahweh then makes all of his angels wear. Next, we have his father who views women as lesser than males, which is why women are considered property in the bible. He makes the weaker kid pay him for protection from him, this is very similar to how he protects people from the hell he created in exchange for blind worship. In the lecture room, you can see the number "42" on a door, 42 is considered to be the meaning of the universe on the Internet (actually, it’s often a symbol to translate to anything or everything). And finally, Yahweh was student number 7, and we all know that within the Christian faith, 7 is considered the holiest number.” - NinjasUseGlocks
- In general, do you think The 40 would point out certain flaws in the Social Science teacher’s explanation and belief that their current society is the most peaceful and successful; such as Yahweh’s less-stellar family life and his bullying of other students in school?
- On a side note, do you think The 40 would want to try something akin to the test on themselves before going back to their worlds?
Just finished watching power corrupts by Darkmatter 2525, And I gotta say,

RAVENCLAW: "You think those holy books weren't written by people just like you? They ate, drank, and slept just like you. They had their ideas about what I'm like and they projected themselves onto me, using me to justify their preferences just like you. They used me to claim that their opinions were objective truths. That their beliefs were knowledge. They didn't know where they ended and I began." –Jon Matter (DarkMatter2525: The Greater Insult)
