TBH one of my biggest gripes in Veilguard is actually how the darkspawn are written with so little regard for all the past games. Yes I'm aware the design differences are hand-waved off as "these are darkspawn experimented on by Ghilan'nain", and given they've gotten redesigns every single game, I can work with that. But what does annoy me are things in the writing, like:
The way people (like the mayor for example) now turn into straight up darkspawn (like hurlocks) instead of ghouls?
The way it's said as fact that darkspawn don't collect things. Hello, Return to Ostagar?
The way everyone insists darkspawn / the Blight has never changed in nature before now. Hello, Awakening?
You might call this nitpicking. That's fine, I don't care if your opinion is different. But my opinion is that darkspawn are an established crucial presence in the ongoing lore of Dragon Age, play a crucial presence in DATV specifically again, and therefore you'd think would be one of the easier and prioritized things to write about cohesively.
But I have my doubts that the Mass Effect team brought into "fix" things cared about that. (And yes, I theorize that a lot can be sourced back to them, given we know some of the decisions tacked on by them include darkspawn and blight related quests.)
