That rockstar!AU makes me want a Phantom of the Opera au with Christine!Suoh, because the idea of some gruff chorus dancer who gets dragged into stardom is exactly the kind of shenanigans I want for him xD Also, Munakata is pretty much canonically the right kind of extra for the role of Phantom ;)
Calling Munakata “the right kind of extra” just made my whole week. You’re so right. I could imagine him tutoring Suoh from the shadows just like the Phantom, teaching him to sing with sublime expression and exquisite skill. Munakata is the world’s sparkliest Angel of Music.
Suoh wouldn’t be some demurring ingenue, though. Suoh would be the reluctant, if-I-sing-will-you-go-away ingenue. Suoh would be the, “Fuck, I can’t believe I have to do this shit now” ingenue. But he’d do it, after some very forceful threats from Izumo, who runs this ramshackle theater.
Let’s say Shiro is the Raul character, who (re)discovers Suoh and wants to claim him now that the man is a famous opera singer. I have a hard time seeing Suoh with anyone other than Munakata, so my Phantom!AU will not end with Shiro and Suoh leaving together. Rather, Suoh entertains Shiro for a while, since Izumo insists their newest star be kind to their patron. And Suoh thinks Shiro is very pretty but boring as hell.
Munakata loses his shit after Suoh returns from his dinner date with Shiro. He forbids Suoh to see Shiro again. And Suoh doesn’t really care, of course, because he’s not that into Shiro. But he wants to fuck with Munakata, so he says, “Oh? Well, who am I gonna see instead? You? Kinda hard when all you do is hide from me?”
Enter Munakata -- dramatically, just like the Phantom, with porcelain mask and blue velvet lined cape and everything.
Of course, they sing their duet and instead of Christine!Suoh passing out after hitting all those high notes, they totally have sex. (It’s mikorei. Sex is a given.)
The next morning, Munakata, whose disfigured face still looks better than 99% of the faces out there, has Suoh introduce him to Izumo. Munakata insists that he will be directing Suoh in a new play designed to showcase his vocal talents. Of course, they’ll need money for this, but Munakata is not going to share Suoh for shit, so he refuses Shiro’s attempts at courting Suoh to continue. He accomplishes his fundraising through threats and subterfuge, because like, what kind of Phantom would he be if he didn’t?
The play is a wild success. Everyone but Fushimi is pleased. But Fushimi is never pleased. Fushimi is the chorus line director and his nasty attitude keeps all the chorus dancers in check.
