This is 100ish pages of tears and brilliance. I cried from the first comic. Which is very much in the vein of Jenny Jinya's death comics (she did this unrelated comic for the fires) with an Australian twist. The order of the comics, pin-ups and single page stories is very well done. From the first pin-up a phoenix in a helmet delivering water to the fires to the last comic a hit at prime minister Scott Morrison. For those not in Australia, no one was happy with him during the fires (and only the virus has saved his image at all). But by the time you get to the 99p point the smile is welcome.

Some thoughts

There is a wide mix of styles and themes. It's not all firies. At least one is a direct reference to Wires. But it all blends so, so well.

The pinups are as heartbreaking and awe-inspiring as the long forms. In the longer forms, it is worth noting that some first-hand accounts of time on the front lines during these fires.

The forward explains why I comic book form was chosen. It really does make sense.

Wildlife Warrior was a real thing. There are stories of firies finding animals in wombat burrows because it is a safe haven.

I'm just going to say this is a charity book. It gets 5 stars purely for its existence. But even as a charity book this is one of the best I've seen. It works well with it's theming and the diversity of the art and the artists is more than welcome. Just have a box of tissues handy.
