The record was set in Japan Japanese engineers have set a new record for data transfer speed over a single fiber optic cable (22.9 petabits per second, or 22.9 million Gbps), which is more than 20 times the entire world Internet traffic per second. This was more than double the previous world record of 10.66 petabits per second, according to the press release. This was more than double the previous world record of 10.66 petabits per second, according to the press release. Global Internet traffic per second refers to the total amount of data transferred throughout the global Internet in one second. This includes all types of online activities such as web browsing, video streaming, file downloading, online gaming and any other data exchanged between internet-connected devices around the world. [caption id="attachment_85637" align="aligncenter" width="780"] Global Internet traffic[/caption] One cable transmitted data at a speed of 22.9 million Gbit/s - this is 20 times faster To handle more Internet traffic, NICT researchers studied multiplexing technologies that utilize space and wavelength in fiber optic communications. The researchers found that each strand of a fiber optic cable could transmit data at speeds of 0.3 to 0.7 petabits per second. The total speed reached 22.9 petabits per second. The NICT team achieved this by applying advanced technology. This cable has 38 cores, each of which is capable of transmitting data in three modes, giving a total of an impressive 114 spatial channels. This increases overall throughput by using different independent data channels in different wavelength ranges. NICT experts hint that with further optimization and bug fixes, the system could potentially reach an impressive 24.7 petabits per second, which is more than 1,000 times faster than current fiber optic communication systems.

This is truly a very complex device Apple includes a simple USB-C 2.0 cable with the new iPhone 15 Pro, although the smartphones support USB-C 3.0. But Apple sells a Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) Pro cable for between $70 and $160 depending on the length. The authors of the Lumafield portal decided to evaluate such a cable using a Neptune X-ray tomograph to understand whether the Apple cable is worth the money. It turned out that the Cupertino product is truly head and shoulders above the cheap cables sold on the market. The connector has a hard plastic housing; underneath there is a metal […]

[caption id="attachment_72743" align="aligncenter" width="780"] Apple Thunderbolt 4[/caption] It turned out that the Cupertino product is truly head and shoulders above the cheap cables sold on the market. [caption id="attachment_72744" align="aligncenter" width="600"] Apple Thunderbolt 4[/caption] The connector has a hard plastic housing; underneath there is a metal shield, completely glued to the connector body - everything is made of stainless steel. Where the cord exits the connector, we see a one-piece strain relief, crimped on eight different sides, which shields the entire bottom of the assembly. Up to $160 Apple Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) Pro Cable X-rayed The Thunderbolt connector delivers maximum performance at virtually every point; it has 24 pins, all mounted independently on a 10-layer PCB. By filtering out the lower-density PCB substrate in our Voyager rendering, we find many blind and hidden vias. Blind vias connect the outer layer to the inner layers but do not extend across the entire board, while hidden vias connect only the inner layers and are not visible from the outside. Another interesting thing hidden in the board is a wobble on one of the tracks. It contains a small workaround to ensure that its length is equal to the length of its pair trace, which is especially important for ultra-high-speed data transfers. The Thunderbolt cable contains three different types of wires, corresponding to its separate charging and data transfer capabilities. Coaxially shielded cable cores are high-speed data transmission lines. Most of the unshielded wires carry power, but two of them are designed to carry data and support legacy USB 2.0 features. The wires and their screens are displayed separately on the printed circuit board. To sum it up, the authors say that the Apple cable is an amazing piece of precision engineering. [caption id="attachment_72748" align="aligncenter" width="780"] Apple Thunderbolt 4[/caption] As for cheaper cables, everything is much worse. For example, the Amazon cable, which costs an order of magnitude less than the Apple cable, although it supports transmission of up to 60 W of power, only complies with the USB 2.0 standard. This cable has only 12 pins crossing each other, a ground shield inside the housing, and a small chip for controlling power and data transfer. [caption id="attachment_72750" align="aligncenter" width="702"] Apple Thunderbolt 4[/caption] The $6 NiceTQ USB-C cable is even more basic. It is unshielded and the connector body is housed in molded plastic without any connection to the cable's ground wire. The cable strain relief is just a rubber extension of the plastic body of the plug, without metal reinforcement, unlike the two previous connectors. There are eight pins inside the connector, but only four of them are connected to the cable. This cable does not have any printed circuit board at all.
However, there are no such problems with USB-C cables from iQOO, OnePlus, Realme, and Redmi After the official start of sales of the iPhone 15 Pro in China, they decided to find out how compatible the new Apple device is with powerful chargers from local smartphone manufacturers. The test results turned out to be very interesting. Huawei and Honor USB-C cables do not charge the iPhone 15 Pro The following power supplies were tested: Vivo 120 W, iQOO 200 W, Oppo 100 W, OnePlus 160 W, Realme 240 W, Redmi 120 W, Huawei 88 W, Honor 100 W, Red Magic 165 […]

It turned out that the charging “cubes” of Vivo, iQOO, OnePlus, Realme, and Redmi support the PD 3.0 protocol, but when using an Oppo device you can only count on USB-DCP and a current of 1.5 A. That is, charging will be slow. What about Huawei and Honor chargers? At first, they refused to charge the iPhone 15 Pro. Experimentally, it was found that the problem is not in the “cubes” themselves, but in the cables: if you replace the original cable with an alternative one, then everything works. This moment caused heated discussions on the Internet in China. It is not yet clear exactly what the reason is: either Huawei and Honor use some proprietary protocols, or Apple does this. But in the context of the confrontation between Huawei and the United States, such restrictions on charging an American smartphone look at least symbolic.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said Apple is aiming to move to USB-C across its entire accessory line by next year: "They'll need to make a new MagSafe Duo with USB-C. Apple could upgrade the MagSafe battery." Manufacturers of counterfeit iPhone products are ready to release a MagSafe battery with USB-C It's not entirely clear whether these updated accessories will be unveiled at the Wonderlust event, but photos of the knockoffs hint at it.
