Marchosauria day 12, Datanglong guangxiensis. Apparently we don't even know what kind of theropod this is (except that it's a tetanuran) so I hit it with the bearded vulture beam. Poofy face feathers and long pants.

Datanglong was discovered fairly recently, hence it’s out of order in my dinosaurian sequence. It lived in the Early Cretaceous period in southeastern China, in the Guangxi Province. It is estimated to be about 7-8 meters long, making it a mid to large sized theropod. It is only known from partial remains, and as such there has been a lot of controversy over its identification and classification. It was originally placed in a basal position in Carcharodontosauria, however since it has been placed in Megaraptora, and again placed in Carcharodontosauria. As it is a relatively recent discovery, more finds will be needed before the controversy of its classification can be put to rest.
