Followup to the last post about Dirk and Hal competing for attention:
Both methods absolutely work. Dave doesn’t let them know (or tries not to), but Dirk’s tension charged, vaguely euphemistic conversations pull Dave to think about him in a less vanilla context. Hal’s overt, aggressive flirtation and constant barrage of romantic and sexual advances are flustering and the attention’s nice, it’s hard not to be interested.
He’s a busy guy, though, and he really doesn’t have time to unpack why he’s even considering humoring Hal’s offers to ‘ease some work stress’ or why Dirk’s fucking double d workout rack is popping up during his own downtime. He represses the parts of him that see Hal’s pretty mouth and Dirk’s nice biceps because that would be pretty bad all things considered. They’re both adults, they’re the ones pursuing him, and yet he’s left with the guilty crumbs of their pursuits.
While Dirk bargains with the concept that maybe Dave just doesn’t want them, and Hal contends with the fact that brute force won’t get him the affections, Dave’s banging his head on his desk because the image of the two of them going at it freaky style hasn’t left his head for an hour and he’s supposed to be the normal one.
