Storm Saturdays by Claws & Thunder Presents:
Five More Times Ororo Stole the Scene in Season One of X-Men: The Animated Series
Last Saturday, we looked at five memorable moments where Storm stole the spotlight during Season One of X-Men: The Animated Series. But there were far too many great scenes to stop there.
Here are five more times our beautiful Weather Witch absolutely dominated the screen!
Captive Hearts
Captive Hearts is one of Storm's strongest episodes in Season One, giving Ororo a chance to shine as both a leader and a hero. The episode reveals her struggle with claustrophobia, allowing us to see her wrestle with fear and self-doubt while growing into an even stronger leader as the X-Men face a desperate situation. Despite the odds and her own personal challenges, Ororo steps up and takes command, proving once again why she will always be one of Marvel's greatest and most inspiring leaders.
Cold Vengeance
While Cold Vengeance is primarily a Wolverine-focused episode, Storm still gets a memorable moment to shine near the end. While posing as tourists on Genosha, Ororo, Remy, and Jubilee are attacked. At first, Ororo is hesitant to fight back for fear of endangering human lives, but when she realizes she has no choice, she delivers an awesome fight scene against the Sentinels. Though all three are ultimately captured, the episode proves once again that Ororo's leadership is rooted not only in the awesome power she commands, but also in her strong moral compass, compassion, and unwavering principles.
Slave Island
Slave Island gives viewers one of the most layered portrayals of Storm in Season One. After being captured in Genosha, Ororo's claustrophobia returns with devastating consequences when she is locked in a small confinement cell, revealing just how severe and debilitating her fear can be. Yet even in her most vulnerable moments, Storm refuses to give up hope. The episode also offers a glimpse of the deep bond between Ororo and Remy, as the two repeatedly support and encourage one another throughout their captivity. And in my personal opinion, a friendship the series never explored nearly enough. When she is finally freed, Storm unleashes the full fury of her powers against the Sentinels and Genosha's oppressors, delivering one of the most satisfying displays of power in the series.
Days of the Future Past part 2
As the X-Men race to stop the assassination of Senator Kelly, Ororo and Logan share a fantastic team-up against the Blob. The pair work together effortlessly, with Storm's power and Wolverine's ferocity complementing one another perfectly. Though the moment is brief, it highlights the trust and chemistry that make them one of the X-Men's most formidable partnerships.
The Final Decision
In The Final Decision, Storm demonstrates tremendous courage when she joins Rogue, Jubilee, and Professor Xavier in remaining above ground to distract Master Mold and his forces while the rest of the X-Men attempt to rescue Senator Kelly. Knowing the risks, Ororo willingly places herself in danger to give her teammates a chance to succeed. It's a powerful example of her bravery, selflessness, and unwavering dedication to Xavier's dream of peaceful coexistence between humans and mutants even when that means risking her life to save someone who once feared and opposed her kind.
One of the reasons Storm remains such an enduring fan favorite is that she is so much more than her incredible powers. Throughout Season One, Ororo demonstrated courage in the face of fear, compassion in the face of hatred, and leadership in the face of impossible odds. Whether she was confronting her claustrophobia, standing up for Xavier's dream, protecting her teammates, or unleashing the fury of the elements, Storm consistently proved why she is one of the greatest heroes in Marvel history.
And believe it or not, we've still only scratched the surface. Season One gave us plenty of unforgettable Ororo moments, but there are many more waiting in the seasons ahead. Until then, let's continue to show our love and support for our favorite Wind Goddess!
And of course, I choose RoLo!
