I hope you dont mind me asking.
What's TransID? And what are harmful vs unharmful ones?
Thankies for the question, mew!! 🫶
TransIDs/transidentity is an umbrella term for someone who doesn't always identify with what society assigns them or perceives them as!!
(One common misunderstanding is that "trans" must be stolen from the transgender & transsex community, but in reality, trans as a prefix has existed long before that!!)
Harmless transIDs are things like:
-Transgender and transsex
-Transage - many age regressors and syskids use this term!! It's okay as long as they acknowledge chrono minors cannot consent to someone of a chronologically significant age gap!
-Transspecies - alterhumans and people with faunagenders use this sometimes! A lot of the time alterhumans & faunagendered people who identify as transspecies are also trying to physically modify their bodies, but that's not inherently the case!! And similar to being transage, it's okay as long as they acknowledge theriform animals cannot consent to them.
-Hyperspecific but generally unproblematic things, like "transpinkhair!"
Harmful transIDs are things like:
-Transintersex - Intersex is not a transitional identity, it is a natal (at birth or during puberty without HRT) one!! Same for perisex! Terms like transsex, transhormonal, transgenital, transreproductive, altersex, duomorphic, multisex, nullsex, etc, etc, etc are the correct terms to use!! (link)
-Transracial - this term was actually co-opted!! It was coined to refer to interracial adoptees who are integrated into a family with a different race than them, but people stole it and began using it to mean "transitioning into a different race", which is not how that works!! Racial dysphoria exists, but you cannot change your race!! Claiming you can fosters cultural appropriation and fetishization.
-Transharmed - basically a desire to be harmed/"transition" to having trauma!! Very unhealthy to treat this as some sort of identity you should transition towards!
-Transharmful (the desire to do harm onto others. Again, it's okay if you're having disordered thoughts, but please find a different way to handle it than to treat it like an identity!!
The term transabled can be harmful or nonharmful, depending on its use, mew. 😓 Many people with body integrity identity disorder use the term, and transitioning for them is medically backed (link) if other treatments do not work. But identities like "transautism", "transbipolar", "transPTSD", etc reinforce harmful mindsets for people suffering from factitious disorder.
People with factitious disorder do not need to be encouraged to "transition" to a disability they do not have (and may be fully incapable of ever having, like autism), the treatment for factitious disorder is to help them stray away from that, not facilitate it!! 😟
To be clear, nothing is wrong with having the feelings associated with harmful transIDs. But it's the way people use them for the sake of cultural appropriation, fetishization, or to glorify disordered feelings that is concerning!!
For people with those feelings, terms like identity incongruence (link) and atypical dysphoria/disconnect/euphoria are so much better!!
