Though it’s fair to ask: What was Confederate paraphernalia doing on US military bases in the first place?
The Confederacy was a racist slaveholding society conducting a war against the United States. Hundreds of thousands of US military personnel died freeing the Confederate states. Confederate paraphernalia, outside of museums, is just as inappropriate as similar items glorifying Nazi Germany.
Gen. David Berger also deserves kudos for extending maternity leave in the Marines and for granting such leaves to same sex couples.
We need more senior military officers who understand that being wise and being just are part of being strong.
