It must have slipped my mind but I was alarmingly reminded while watching Pygmalion (1938) that David Tree became a gentleman farmer and his book Pig in the Middle was the inspiration for The Good Life. I’m shook. No points for guessing which book I’m asking for for Christmas. 

Sadly, he received no royalties or credit. Apparently Felicity Kendal recognized his influence but there isn’t any citation to confirm that.
