slight delay
For those following my blog, sorry there has been such a mass lapse in posting. I am working on the new website for www.dawngarcia.com and just finished launching my Food Writing site "A Taste of Dawn". My brain has been working tirelessly to get everything in order. These are the days when being the one creating, designing, AND writing everything becomes, well, exhausting. So please stay tuned and don't think I've forgotten to post. Just taking short moments to breathe in the midst of entering the zone of a workaholic.
Thanks for sticking with me and I hope to keep inspiring you all as you all keep inspiring me.
life and beauty vs truth and beauty.
Beauty is something that seems quite superficial and at times, maybe it is. But most of the time, "beauty" is something far deeper. It's an emotional transformation. A way to look at ourselves and feel worth something. But the problem is we rely on outside things to make us feel like we have some worth when what we really need is to look within ourselves. I'm a big advocate of style and makeup (obviously) but not to mask who we are, rather to express what we feel. "Pretty" is much more than an outer appearance. It's a state of mind.
I am merely monitoring my insanity through writing. A writer really is a functioning schizophrenic. We live and breathe through those we create. We tell all of our secrets, reveal all of our darkness - in a story because we can rest assured it will no longer haunt us. We walk the tightrope every moment because we have to find a way to both indulge and release. A strangely beautiful, masterful teetering...

strangers in a booth
Strangers in a booth can either be an invasion or a happenstance of perfection. Today, I experienced perfection. Well, me and my two lovey's.
Some days are just extraordinary. You wake up ready to go back to bed but somehow you don't. You open your eyes, pull your body languidly from the sheets, embrace the brisk air, place your feet on the ground and the day takes hold. Today was lovely. A day with two of my favorite people. I have had so much of the "unexpected" in my life and as it turns out, that is the most beautiful part of living. Spent the afternoon laughing and loving and having wonderful conversation with a couple seated next to us, Francina and Snaire. Originally from South Africa, but living in Orange County 35 years. They have been married 51 years and there was such a beauty to them. The loveliness in which they spoke, the zest of living - it was the perfect reminder to just embrace this journey we are all on. Talk to someone sitting next to you, it may just turn everything around!
More on this story soon...
As we drove back we stopped at the ocean for a little seaside fun. Three sets of feet running back and forth in the sand. Each wave and ripple tickling our skin with effortless enticement. There is no place on earth more beautiful than the ocean. It is this profound body of water that connects ALL of mankind.
