Steps quiet, Roy moved to stand behind Rivers. It'd been some time since he'd seen the woman, and, letting her guard down like that... well, that just wasn't acceptable. His hands rose, sliding to cover her eyes in a quick motion and, unable to bite back a playful smile, he leaned close, his cheek brushing against her hair. "Guess who, Rivers."
Alex’s breath left her in an instant.
Any thoughts that had been previously occupying her head — any equations, circles, or run-downs of routine, reviews of paperwork due that day — were immediately swept away, with no hope of retrieval. As her vision went dark, her mind went blank, nothing but nervous signals coming and going: shivers down her spine, constrictions of her throat. The voice rumbled past her ear, and she barely hesitated.
“C-Colonel,” she replied with a gasp, one that she tried and failed to muffle. Her entire body was suddenly stiff, cheeks burning, and it was absolutely humiliating, but when his cheek brushed her hair which brushed her cheek, it was more difficult than it should have been, to collect herself, and not shudder.
Her head turned, just slightly, as she did her best to pull herself back down from the effects of such a surprise. Despite being unable to see anything, she still shifted as if to glance back at him, drawing her lips together almost calmly, as shaky hands rose to catch on his wrists. Her stomach was still doing flips, but she did her best to ignore that.
“It’s… it’s not nice to sneak up on someone like that, you know,” she chastised, gently, though she didn’t seem completely convinced of her own message. Her hands hung onto him, lightly, and she made little attempt to move. “I could’ve been thinking of something important… y-you know. Might’ve revolutionized how you do your work….”
Her weight shifted, anxious, unsteady. Her back met his chest, and she recoiled immediately.
“Are you—” she piped, a bit louder than before, fingers instinctively a little tighter on his wrists. Her cheeks flushed, volume dropped, and grip loosened, not a second later. “Are you back for real, this time, Colonel…?”
