Day 31 of posting about Lighthouses

Wollongong Breakwater Lighthouse

Also know as the Wollongong Harbor Lighthouse, it stands in New South Wales in Australia. Wollongong is unique in that it has two lights so close to each other, with the Wollongong Head Lighthouse being nearby. It was built in 1871, but due to its increasingly poor conditions it was decommissioned in 1974 and was going to be destroyed. Fortunately, due to the outcry of locals who had come to know it as Old Wollongong, it was renovated in 2002. The light still functions and is often turned on for special maritime occasions.
