Finnpoe Quarantine Series: Day Fifty-Five
Day Fifty-Four l Day Fifty-Six
“When I met you.” Poe says. “As soon as you took off your helmet.”
“You were a prisoner of war, Poe.”
“I trusted you.” The corners of his eyes crinkle. “I still do.”
“Bad timing,” Finn admonishes.
“There’s never good timing, hon.”
“Alright.” Finn settles next to him on the floor. “Be that way.”
Poe snorts. “When did you fall for me then?”
“When I saw you alive on D’Qar.” Finn’s voice wavers, and Poe doesn’t have to ask why. “It just took me a lot longer to realize it. But I found my way to you.”
“Oh, so it’s a thing for handsome pilots then?”
Finn frowns. “One handsome pilot.”
“You said- oh.” The other man freezes beside Finn. BB-8 beeps rapidly, and it nearly sounds like a full cackle.
“What?” Finn demands, sitting up quickly. “What do you mean, Poe?”
“Nothing. I didn’t mean anything.”
“You realized something. What did I say?”
“Nope-” Poe is shaking his head, scooching across the floor, away from Finn. “Don’t; worry about it dear.”
“The pilot?” Finn’s brow creases. “You mean you didn’t know the pilot was- oh.”
BB-8’s laughter continues.
Day Fifty-Five
It was snowing off and on all night, so I thought we might have a delay this morning- a lot of districts did- but the roads really weren’t bad. It started to snow again midway through the morning, so the kids started asking if we’d have an early release, which also didn’t happen. I think they were a bit disappointed.
Some of my colleagues said students struggled to focus or get work done today, but- thankfully- they were fine in World. They were just doing current events essays, though, so if they came in prepared to write, it wasn’t an especially difficult task. I helped a few students organize their ideas, and edited some citations, but they’re getting the hang of this form of writing, at this point, so that’s really all I had to do. They picked some cool things to write about, too: using CRISPR to fight cancer, Morales’ ouster in Bolivia, the Hong Kong protests... Actually, there were lots of questions about the Hong Kong protests because students wanted to know more about the root causes than they were finding in the articles they were reading, so I did a little bit of a history lesson for them. I’m happy that they’re curious.
The rest of the team teachers and I spent Block 5 at an IEP meeting. We were introduced (by the district’s SLP) to Snap & Read, which is a Google Chrome extension that does all kinds of cool things to help students who struggle with reading and writing (like... it’ll read an article aloud, and define complex vocabulary, and that sort of thing). I have to play around with it more, but so far I think it’s really awesome.
After that meeting, there was a faculty meeting, but it was pretty short. The Principal just had a few things to go over, nothing really major. Afterwards, I went back to my classroom because I still had to finish up a few things for my lessons tomorrow; I had an assignment that was only halfway written, and I had to make all my photocopies. That took until about 4:00, then I carefully picked my way across our icy parking lot to my car, and headed home.
