8 “no I won’t be your fake partner to your office Christmas party, don’t you remember what happened last time!?” 64 “I’ll cry.” “Is that meant to be a threat?”
The moment Sungjin stops in front of you, that cute smile of his plastered upon his face, you knew what he wanted. It was the same smile as last year.
"Hi…" he greeted softly, flirty.
You rolled your eyes as you let the can of soda fall into your shopping cart "No I won’t be your fake partner to your office Christmas party, don’t you remember what happened last time!?” you walked away from him.
He ran after you, though "You don't even know what I was gonna ask!"
You turned around to look him in the eye "Alright. What did you wanna ask?"
He looked away awkwardly "It's not relevant anymore…"
You let out a chuckle as you continued walking away from him. But he still ran after you, you were sure he'd follow you through the entire store like this.
"Please, I can't go alone! Rick will just make more fun of me if I show up without a proper date! He already doesn't believe I'm in a relationship."
"And he's right, isn't he? You're not dating anyone."
He was walking beside you now, looking at everything you put in your cart "Well, yes. But he thinks I don't have a relationship because of different reasons. Not because I'm lying about it."
"You realise you're not making any sense right?"
He waved your question away "That doesn't matter, you know what I mean. Now please be my date?"
He held onto your arm, forcing you to look him in his puppy eyes. You never had been able to say no to that cute face.
"Fine." You almost spit the little word out.
He jumped up excitedly "Great! I'll pick you up at 6."
Long story short, that evening you were standing on the dancefloor between people you didn't know, in your nice outfit. The music was loud, people were dancing energetically to it. You had lost Sungjin a while back, he just seemed to have disappeared, leaving you at the buffet table.
"Hi, I don't think I've seen you around before?" A young, blonde, woman asked you.
She chuckled " Wow, so he really does have a partner. How great for him."
You smiled and nodded. Yep. His partner. You.
She looked around the room like she was looking for something, "Where is Sungjin?"
You shrugged "No idea, he disappeared a while ago."
She snorted "Leaving his beautiful date unattended, that's so Sungjin, it's ridiculous. Anyway, are you enjoying the party?"
You nodded awkwardly "Yeah it's… cool."
"Sarah," a familiar voice said from behind you, two hands suddenly on your shoulders, "You're not bothering my date, are you?"
The blonde woman laughed "I wouldn't dare. Well, have fun! And merry Christmas, of course."
You turned around to angrily look at Sungjin "Where were you?"
He shrugged "Bathroom. And on my way back I bumped into Rick, so we talked a little. Why? Did you miss me?"
You pushed against his stomach.
He laughed, and stuck his hand out to you "May I have this dance."
"Really? You want to dance with me to Rudolph the red nosed reindeer?"
He nodded with a bright smile, you took his hand and he pulled you into the dance floor. That quickly turned out to be a mistake, because right after you started dancing, the song changed to some sappy romantic Christmas song and everyone began slow dancing.
Sungjin smiled sweetly, as if asking you to keep dancing with him. Your heart skipped a beat when he pulled you closer and rested his hand on your hip.
Suddenly you seemed to be alone, that's how it felt at least, like no one else was around, just the two of you. His eyes mesmerized you, enchanted you, you couldn't look away. However, their dept scared you and, afraid you would drown and kiss him, like what happened last year, you tried to get away.
You took a step backwards, but Sungjin's grip around your waist only got tighter.
"I'll cry." He pouted, "If you go away, that is."
"Is that meant to be a threat?" He nodded, making you laugh "You're so silly."
He shrugged "That's my specialty."
And then you two were silent again, just slowly dancing, bodies close together. But then he shook his head, smiling to himself.
"What?" You asked curiously.
You found his eyes again "Tell me what you think."
For a second time stood still, as he looked back into your eyes, before he talked, "I was about to… kiss you, again. But I promised that wouldn't happen again."
You felt the blood rush to your cheeks, and you were sure you looked like a tomato at this point. You looked away, trying to fix your eyes on something else, anything else, but they found his again.
Sungjin smiled "Now that we got that out of the way, I can just as well admit more. You see, I think I'm in love with you. I think i have been for a while."
You just listened, the music faded away as a new song started, you didn't pay attention to it, you both stayed close together. Sungjin kept talking about how he felt, but you couldn't hear him anymore.
You bent forward, and in the middle of his sentence, your lips touched his, and you could swear your heart would explode. You felt his warmth, his entire body froze for a mere second, before his grip got gentle, sweet. The hand that wasn't on the small of your back, cupped your face.
"I like you too, you goof. I kissed you last time, remember? I thought you just weren't interested since you didn't talk about it afterwards."
He laughed "I got nervous every time I wanted to bring it up, so I never did!"
You chuckled "You're so strange."
"Good thing I'm so cute."
