Let's Talk About The Difference In A Bug Out Bag/B.O.B. And A Get Home Bag/G.H.B.
Essentially, your big out bag is going to contain supplies to hopefully last you at least 72 hours, but have you ever heard of a get home bag? This is a lightweight day backpack or 24 hour bag. It should contain anything you would seem fit to get you home, and you probably guessed it right. This bag goes with you, everywhere. Because who's to say when disaster will strike? Most of us will probably be at work when a major event happens, and I feel it necessary to have a bag that's got enough prevision in it for yourself only for 24 hours. What if your trapped away from your home or safehouse when the SHTF? Here's what I have in mine
Enough water for myself to last 24 hours
Enough food for 24 hours
Flashlight
Extra batteries (optional but useful)
Well stock first-aid kit
Medium sized pocket knife with sawblade
Portable camping stove that uses a fuel block.
Lightweight camping dishes
One full extra set of clothes
Compass
Multitool
Binoculars
Matches and waterproof matches
Animal snare (optional)
Poncho
Reflective blanket/tent
Eye drops & feminine products because I am a woman
Walkie talkie so I can communicate to my family
Sharpie, Paper, Spray Paint
Bandana's
Mask
Pepper Spray
And probably a few other things I can't name immediately on hand, but I have ready. This bag stays in my car, my family keeps theirs in their vehicles as well, and if something ever happened and your stranded in the middle of nowhere in your car, you have supplies.
Better Prepared Than Scared
