the little things in life
I remember a piece of advice that was given by the eldest son of my mother’s friend - he told us that when we feel as though we are being shattered into pieces, we have to think of at least three (3) things that make us grateful about our life. Sounds easy, right?
When I took up the challenge, I thought it would be as easy as it sounds. Apparently, I spent almost an hour brainstorming and enumerating all the little things that make me grateful about my life.
1. Waking up today. - There are times in which I’d get nightmares wherein I am no longer in this place, far away from the people I love and matter to me. Today, I’ve realized that every day is an opportunity to grow as an individual and grow closer to the people you love. I’ve realized that each day is an opportunity to tell them that they matter.
2. Time. - Sometimes I feel as though time is a punishment, as there are moments in which I feel stuck in time, forever waiting for the hands of the clock to move. Today, I am making an attempt to make better use of it, not just for work-related productivity, but to make use of time to create more memories and be the best person I can be. People who know me personally might think I’m too positive and optimistic as they read what I’m writing as of the moment, but honestly, I’m trying so hard not to be pessimistic today. I’m trying so hard to shed off negativity and build my own fortress of happiness.
3. People who never give up on me, no matter how contemptible I am. - I will always be forever grateful to people who rebuke me and love me despite my flaws and shortcomings. I will always be grateful to those who never give up on me and continue to love me even when I can’t love myself. You all are the reason why I keep on trying even though it’s difficult. I love you all.
