something that stands out to me about markus is that pre-deviancy, he doesn't put on an act for carl. he could easily say "yes carl i love your painting!" like most androids who are designed to please their owner, instead he's like "i don't really know how this makes me feel but i think i like it?" he's honest with carl about how he doesn't really understand human emotions. he likes philosophy because he feels like it helps him get closer to understanding. he doesn't try to mimic humanity for carl's sake, all the humanity he shows before properly deviating is genuinely him just learning

I think that Carl would actually recover quite a bit at the end of the game

Look, this man had the absolute worst moment of his life when he thought both of his sons died in front of his eyes, no wonder he collapsed and started dying

But after Markus comes to see him as a successful leader of the revolution, and Leo comes from rehab and apologizes and is ready to start life with a clean slate, I think that is going to help Carl's recovery more than anything else and we'll get at least another few years with him

Plus there's then a third brother who is also very devoted to him!! And I want North and Josh and Simon to get to meet him too 🥺
