When I first played dbh, i hatedddd leo. Then on my second playthrough, i felt more bad for him. His character description expands so much more on him \/

Leo is the only son of famous painter Carl Manfred. Born of a short but passionate fling with a young groupie, Leo was initially raised by his mother, who got a large pension to take care of him. Manfred recognized his paternity at the birth, but it was only when Leo was 16 that they saw each other again. The old man, lost in doubt, confronted his demons through facing the angry young man. But their embryonic relationship quickly changed when Manfred realized that his son was hooked on red ice. Tension grew, leaving Manfred profoundly angry and disappointed at Leo’s every visit, forcing him to realize that he couldn’t be the father he wanted to be...

I made so many posts dicussing Detroit Become Human, I cant believe I never made a post about Leo Manfred! So this will be fixed now.

Because like, probably everyone felt like this the first time they played the game; that they didnt like Leo and thought of him as a minor antagonist to Markus story, right? At least thats the opinion I have encountered the most.

But quite honestly, I gotta defend Leo. Simply because of what D*vid C*ge has written for him as a background story. (read ALT text if better quality is needed)

Like... He was raised alone by his mother, never met his dad until he was 16- And hes pretty young too! By the time the game is set, Leo is 26. It just really makes the player wonder if aspects like this made him return to red ice, plus we barely know anything about how he grew up.

Also, the game paints Leos jealousy of Markus like its crazy, but quite honestly? If I was a struggling, young adult who barely knows his world-famous dad- AND said dad now has a caretaker who he seems to see as a son, a son he treats MUCH nicer than you? That must hurt BAD. Of course I understand Carl not giving Leo any money, thats actually a good choice considering how he would spend it, but Leo needs help- And yet all that happens is that hes being sent away. When really what he needs is professional help, maybe proper conversations.

Anyway, uhmmmm. No, I dont think of Carl as a villian I need to clarify that. But also, I cant personally ignore how hes treating his biological son.
