You know, Shin's freak out over Debura during the Buu saga makes a lot of sense now after watching some Daima.

Imagine growing up on stories of a tyrant king who was like, super powered Hitler just so close to where you are. He could come and cause trouble at any time. For a Glind kid, Debura was like the boogie man that everyone warned you about. I bet.they even had "go to bed or Debura will get you" stories to top off how much of a real life monster he was.

Then imagine you grow up, get a life, and forget allllll about your childhood woes until you literally just SEE the scary MF that your people had been talking about when you were a kid RIGHT FREAKING THERE UNDER THE CONTROL OF CRAZY WIZARD CLONE OF THE GUY YOU OFFED.

Terrifying.

No wonder he panicked at that disco.

DBZ Theory - Vegeta's Height

I've had my turn making fun of Toei for blatantly changing Vegeta's height. He used to be shorter than Bulma in DBZ, now in DBS, he's taller than Bulma. Obviously, they did it because it looks weird that Vegeta is shorter than a woman, plus they want him closer to Goku's height. (Never bothered Hiei, thou... just saiyan)

Well, I have a theory more about Saiyan growth in general, all me to explain.

Sometimes when crafting a theory you need to remember to throw away your preconceived notions. We assume it's weird that Vegeta suddenly got taller, because adult men eventually stop growing. But, remember Vegeta is not an ordinary human man, he is a Saiyan, and we've met a few Saiyans that are noticeably taller then where Vegeta and Goku stand now.

It could be that Saiyans don't stop growing ever. So, it could be perfectly normal that Vegeta suddenly is taller. (Him being shorter in the last episode of DBZ we can call an Animation error.)

I'd like to take it a step further and say this also explains the weird inconsistencies of Saiyan heights.

This is the two versions of Trunks at 14 years old. He is noticeably taller in the "Bad Timeline" than he is in the normal timeline.

Compare that to how Gohan looked at ten years old. (Adult Gohan and Goku are basically the same height) Or how about the fact that apparently Goku was 15 when he met Bulma.

(Obviously, the real world explanation is that Trunks and Goten haven't been relevant to the plot in Dragonball Super, so Toei felt no need to update their character models... at least until the DBS Movie.)

It is my theory that Saiyans don't grow until they NEED to.

Saiyan biology has evolved them into perfect fighting machines, so they actually avoid having an awkward, lanky teen phase (for the most part) and just transition very quickly from their child body type, to an adult body type.

And honestly, Toriyama essentially confirmed this a few years ago in the Jaco manga:

But, I say Jaco's view is biased and limited. It's not just ordinary growth, I'm saying Saiyans actually get taller based on their need to survive and get stronger.

Gohan's childhood was a very uneasy time that lead him to train constantly for basically five years, that it caused him to grow taller in response.

Meanwhile, Trunks lived through essentially 14 years of peace. (In the Buu Saga he was only HALF of a warrior.)

Goku didn't go through a major growth spurt until after clashing with King Piccolo.

This would also explain why Vegeta's brother Tarble is ridiculously small. He's been running away his entire life. He hasn't needed to get taller. (Originally, I thought it was a spacial time dilation thing.)

And, in training to keep up with Goku, Vegeta's body responded by getting taller... a perfectly normal thing for his Saiyan biology to do.

So, there you go... Saiyan growth never stops. Maybe someday, Goku will be as tall as Raditz was.

crackpot fan theory for the day:

so vegeta's probably been taught that he's supposed to be strong but he's not really meant to fight the grittier battles, right? like, saiyans are meant to capture planets and be a pretty strong race—but vegeta's still royalty. 

he grew up having an army (or something like it) at his command to do whatever he wanted, or at the very least he saw his dad had one and knew it'd be guaranteed to him once he took the throne. 

so by the time he meets goku that mentality is already pretty deeply ingrained in him, even if the planet's gone, and he's introduced to this super strong idiot whose only goal is to be stronger. of course he's going to try to match that, all the while keeping in mind that he has an inexhaustible one-man army who's basically ready willing and able to fight all vegeta's battles for him, so long as vegeta stays a half step ahead and makes him think that he's just fighting to get stronger. 

obviously vegeta wants to get stronger and fight too—it's literally in his blood—but he stays just far enough back from goku to save his own ass, because that's what he's used to and that's what he's going to continue to do (especially after he has a family, because we all know he’s always going to view trunks as the next in line).

tl;dr: vegeta’s tricking goku into thinking they’re in an arms race so vegeta can save his own ass

Every other Dragonball fan I talk to: "Well the butterfly effect obviously changed them [through some time magic stuff] when Trunks arrived..."

Me: "Okay the butterfly effect changed them, but that's... not how it works... Gero was obviously modifying them. He makes it very clear that he's putting them back to sleep to "Adjust their behavior" until they will obey him... The Z fighters also showed up to the island during the first attack instead of hunting them down... It makes much more sense that Dr. Gero and 19 were ALWAYS the ones who attacked first. 16 ALWAYS existed, and what changed was this confrontation. Gero was forced to wake them up early, without further modification... which presumably would have been "Remove more of their humanity, and lower their power output so they will be more obedient and less of a threat." but no... continue telling me that’s stupid, and the whole “ripples in time” was meant to mean literal ripples in the fabric of reality that supernaturally changed everything...”

Old super saiyan theory(like I was a freshman that's how old)

So like when I was teeny bopper and was super into anime I got back into rewatching DBZ and was finishing GT. I had came up with a theory I only shared with an old friend of my sister(may he rest in peace) he was just a big of an anime nerd as i was and this totally made sense in my mind back then. So like when I told him I had never seen someone looks so fuckinh shocked and enlightened.

I’m pretty sure this theory can be easily debunked now but it was fun to think as to why saiyans can go super saiyan. I really wanted to write it down cause I think it would be fun to write in a fanfic.

@phantomtype here’s the theory I was telling you about last night!

It basically comes down to the reason Saiyans needing to lose their tails to become super saiyan. Because the tail acts as both a seal and power distributer for the saiyan body. With the tail the saiyans power forces them to bevome a primal form which is Ozaru.

In the original DB Goku kept on getting his tail cut off right before he begins another training trip. Slowly he grew so strong that by the time he fought and won again Piccolo his tail no longer grew back.

Gohan was born with a tail and had it cut off by Piccolo and it never grew back after that. He ended up being stronger than Goku because the enemies he had to face ended up being stronger than Goku and his body was trained until it was sturdy enough to handle his potential power up.

Goten was born with out a tail and by the time he was 7 he could turn super saiyan easily Same as trunks.

Pan and Bra are born with out tails as well and as seen in GT (No matter how much we try to forget) their very powerful young girls.

All this leads me to believe that the reason for saiyan to become a super saiyan is to love their tails to become one. And then train their body to endure the stress and power that they must now endure with out the tail to change them into a stronger form for them.

But without the tail acting as a seal and distributer the saiyans need to train or retrain their body to handle that power of Ozaru but it comes in small strong doses because the saiyans dont have tails to help conduct/distribute that power. So without the tail they can’t access except through harsh training to make their bodies sturdy enough to handle it

If GT was cannon or at least SSJ4 this would have clinched it but all of it was non canon even the form and we got hair dye saiyan god instead. (Still salty as hell about no SSJ4 in DBS)

And finally the golden ape is the second or last step to the logical evolution of the SSJ forms. It makes sense that you need to become super saiyan in a form that already is unleashing your current power. Plus having once again regaining the tail which is a power distributer. By using the hidden power with the physical form of your current power level you essentially surpassed yourself but the hardest part is harnessing it. Because that amount of power constantly out would damage the body thus the last step of Saiyan evolution

Ssj4, the current and hidden power all harnessed and concentrated in a smaller faster primal form. After a saiyan returns from this state they get to keep their tails because they already put their bodies through the stress and training needed to handle that power thus the return of the tail. The tail now acts as as an ways way to access SSJ4.

So yeah this was an old theory that I really liked

DBZ Theory: The Secret of Chiaotzu

Tien and Chiaotzu are inseparable. Whenever one is on screen, you know the other one is not far away. They go together like crab potstickers and rice. Tien is Chiaotzu's best friend. There cannot be any doubt that they treat each other with affection.

Tien is always trying to push past his limits, and Chiaotzu is always there dutifully at his side - to assist with his training, to cheer him on, join in a fight, and even prepare meals for him. Without any ambitions for himself to distract him.

I mean, that fits into Tien's lifestyle a little too perfectly?

Think about it... does he even talk to anybody else? Try to recall a moment that Chiaotzu talked to anyone that wasn't part a filler moment? You'd have to go back to the original Dragonball, even then Tien was watching near by.

Also, he was introduced as small rival for Krillin, but that highlights another question. What's up with his body?

I mean, he met Goku 3 years before he married Chichi. Now Goku's a Grandfather and Chiaotzu looks exactly the same as when he was introduced.

A few of you might be thinking - he's might be a psychic projection sustained by Tien himself. A lot of you are probably chiming up to say - Chioatzu is a Chinese Vampire.

That's not what I'm saying.

My theory has always been that Chiaotzu is a homunculus.

If you don't know, Tien started as a villain. He would go to extremes to prove he was the strongest. He entered the Tenkaichi Tournament and had no qualms about crippling his opponents. If the rules allowed, there's no doubt, he would have killed them. You see the Crane school had one other outstanding member, "Mercenary Tao" a world famous assassin. Tien was training to be the greatest Assassin in the world.

Now, think about Chiaotzu's skills. He can communicate telepathically with Tien. He can use his Psychic powers to block bullets, hurl objects, or hold a person in place. His signature attack is the Dodon Ray, it's like an assassin's bullet. Plus, he's got an suicide attack as a last resort. Plus, he's tiny, and he can fly. And he looks like a small, unassuming Child.

The perfect tool for an Assassin.

Add to that, that now we know, the Crane school had no qualms about dealing with the dark arts, as exemplified by Yurin's talisman magic.

My theory is that to increase his chances of success, a young Tienshinan used the Dark Arts of the Crane School to craft a perfect Assassin's tool. Going to extremes and not being hampered by breaking a few laws, he might have started with the dead body of a young boy (maybe he killed him himself) and resurrected him as a living weapon who's mind is totally devoted to him.

Of course, Tien had a dramatic change in his course in life. He left behind the Assasin's road to travel an honorable path. And Chiaotzu and him are enjoying life.

But what I can't help but wonder is what will happen to Chiaotzu after Tien finally passes? Will he find another fighter to glom on to? Will he finally find a life for himself? Or will he stand by Tien's grave still devoted to his master?

Chances are - we'll never know. But we can theorize about it.

DBZ Theory Frieza's True Form

Here's a new one theory that I've been ruminating about for a few weeks. Let me be upfront, this actually a theory about Frieza's BIOLOGY, how does his species's Transformations work.

One lingering questions has been, which of Frieza's forms was he born in? Was it his "Fourth Form" (the white purple version) and then he shifted down to the "First Form" (small pink with horns)? Or Vice-versa?

[Personal note - I've always considered Freiza as having only 3 forms. I view Big Pink w/Horns as just an extension of Small Pink w/Horns. But I'm not here to convince anyone of that.]

Before I get to my main point, let me explain something else I discovered that let me to my current theory.

Let's talk about Cell, Dr. Gero's Ultimate Life-form. Cell is a mixture of the Z warriors, plus Frieza's species, too. Cell actually exhibits a few traits that were hard to place, for instance his regenerative abilities.

We always assumed that his capacity to regenerate from just a clump of tissue was a supercharged version of Piccolo's ability to regrow his limbs. But Piccolo has a clear limit that his head has to be undamaged. Why doesn't that affect Cell?

As I was watching The Return of Cooler for the first time, I saw that Cooler survived as just a head. Then I remembered Frieza survived the explosion of Namek despite massive head trauma. And in Resurrection F, Frieza survived as a a bunch of chunks of meat, including is head in several pieces.

That's where it comes from!

Cell can regenerate his head because the Ice Demons doesn't need a complete head to survive. (That raises the question of where is the Ice Demon consciousness is located, but that's a question for another time.)

Anyway, recently I was rewatching the Cell Saga and I noticed a particular ability that Cell has but no one ever seems to talk about. Cell is actually from the future and he traveled back in time, but to do so he reverted himself back into an Egg.

What a strange, random ability for Cell to have. Saiyans and Namekians can't do that, I'm pretty sure. It could only come from the Ice Demons! That's it!

Freiza's species can probably go up and down on their transformations.

It doesn't really matter which is actually their first form, but I'd have to guess Freiza born in the Small Pink w/ Horns form, since his transformations are more like an insect's metamorphosis, rather than transformations like a Saiyan.

But I imagine, they mainly go up on their transformation scale, because it comes with a great boost in power. Shifting down leaves the Ice Demons more vulnerable since it greatly limits their power levels. (That's why Cell reverted into an Egg - to hide his power level)

It's probably a leftover survival mechanism... like if the environment is not suitable for their needs they can revert into an egg. Or if they can't find a mate. It's kinda like Hibernation for them. There are some species of crustaceans that can control their metamorphosis, even staying in the "adolescent" stages for a long time. Frieza felt no need to metamorphosis to increase his survival rate until he fought on Namek.

It's likely the small and smooth form is supposed to be the "Adult" form of the Ice Demons. (It does raise some questions about Cooler's forms and Kuriza, but those are best left for another time)

In summation, my theory is that Freiza's true form is likely the White and Purple "Fourth" Form. It's what I believe his biology was ratcheting up towards. It is his Adult form. But if he ever needed to, Frieza could revert back into his "first form" or possibly all the way back into an Egg. (Not that he'll ever need to do that.)
