//Uhm....Going to try to do an summary/analysis kind of thing for the DB song, Re: Parallel Love Lines without going off topic...and running off of memory for most stuff...And...posting since I missed DB day *sigh*//
So, currently, there're two English translations I can find, one here, by polarisunique and the other here, by amesubs.
Okay, from the beginning, we have B-ko's part, who is basically just complaining about all the attention she gets, and that her split-personality bothers the real her, since B-ko's perfect mask is maintained by lies. Very reminiscent of Kano, but that's not what I'm talking about here. Somewhere along the way, B-ko sees her doppelganger, and the gazes lock. Running back to B-ko's novel chapters, we find that the only person to lock eyes with B-ko is D-ne, so that could be a tip-off to her.
The next part of her solo basically says that "Monkey imitation/aimless imitation comes because of extreme envy" once again pointing at D-ne trying to be B-ko. Then we have the issue of B-ko's wishes, where the true goal of "Who am I and what do I want?" are kept secret, yet she still ends up smiling from getting what she wants. This leads me to think that B-ko has become tired of being 'her', and would think that D-ne taking over would let B-ko become normal, and unnoticed, instead of always being the center of attention due to her mask.
Then we have D-ne's part. We start up with D-ne wanting B-ko to hear her, to pay attention to her, and asking 'whose fault is it?', while B-ko's part asks 'is it my fault?' So, we're basically looking at the reason why D-ne is so overly attached to B-ko is because, long ago, B-ko decided to become a person who got along with everyone, and ended up becoming the 'ideal, perfect girl.'
This is exactly what D-ne wants, although the reason why she wants it...its probably been so long that she's forgotten the true reason, either that, or she's enchanted with being loved and catching attention from all directions, since that's something that she's never had. As D-ne grows closer to B-ko, and closer to becoming B-ko, she finds that they're more alike than she originally thought and it pretty much breaks her headcanon about B-ko.
We have B-ko saying that imposters are hidden in the heart, while D-ne says that everyone has lies kept there too. If you think about it, isn't an imposter an existence created from lies? Also, both of them sing the same lines, regarding their wishes, and getting what they wanted from their story of parallel lines. D-ne's wishes are granted by the monkey's paw, which steals things from somewhere else. B-ko's wishes...how are they granted? Well, what she wants is to be normal, and, while D-ne is traipsing around town cosplaying B-ko, the real B-ko gets to have a...uh...relatively...normal lifestyle, or at least one where she doesn't have to have all the attention on her, even if its fake.
Realizing this, we come to the last part of the song, where B-ko and D-ne are singing pretty much at the same time, and completing each other's verses. This leads me to think that they probably, albeit through different means, ended up with the same conclusion, that their desires actually coincide with each other, and what they want is what the other has. B-ko asks for 'peace', which could be seen as wanting a peaceful, boring life, which is exactly what D-ne has. We all know what D-ne wants...which is everything B-ko has.
Then, there's the other repeating lyric at the end of each verse, said for a total of three times.
"A commonplace scenario of uncrossed paths-Yes, the one who drew out these parallel lines" (polaris)
" It’s just a normal misunderstanding-That’s right, with the one who drew the parallel lines."(ame)
This seems pretty important, since their relationship runs along this, the parallel lines that follow each other without ever touching, I'm guessing that their thought processes lead to the same conclusion. The fact that parallel lines don't touch, unless you put them close enough together that they turn into one line, brings about the thought that maybe they're just extreme halves of what they really want, since their personal identities get dissolved along the way...
B-ko, who wants to go back to being normal and unnoticed, D-ne who wants to be perfect and receive the attention...I think that maybe the feeling that they couldn't get across is that they really want to switch with each other, and in the process, they end up losing sight of 'who they are' when trying to change.
This leads to the two translations of the last verse in the song:
"This story that continues along parallel lines
Should be seen from both sides
Spitting it out, cutting it up
"It’s a 0 that has nothing"
The chair-stealing game is fake
A commonplace scenario of uncrossed paths
Yes, the one who drew out these parallel lines" (polaris)
"This story that continues on the parallel lines
Is about trying to sit on two stools
(I spit it out, tearing it to pieces
“0 has nothing”)
(This game of musical chairs is full of cheating
It’s just a normal misunderstanding
That’s right, with the one who drew the parallel lines.)
Translation Notes:
“Trying to sit on two stools” also means “Trying to have it both ways”, but is also referring to the game of Musical Chairs." (ame)
The story that should be seen from both sides could refer the mirrored part, but its not a true reflection, more like a reversed orientation, like how B-ko wears the ribbon on the left, and D-ne wears it on the right. The '0 who has nothing' is mainly reminiscent of the end of Aimless Imitation Musical Chairs, where the 0 became 1, and D-ne turned into B-ko. After getting everything that she desired, D-ne no longer had anything to reflect, so all of that left her with nothing, like a mirror that doesn't reflect anything. They need each other to get the full image.
The chair-stealing game being fake could mean that it never really was a part of the Demise game at all. B-ko's letter has to do with doppelgangers and the three day time limit, could be seen as the so-called music for the game, and D-ne's wishes as the chairs, like in her pv. So, the chair-stealing game would be the combination of their stories, and either one alone would render it 'fake'.
To finish off, B-ko and D-ne basically need each other in order to find out what they really want, which is what the other has, and they both have to be alive in order to reach it and cross the misunderstanding that's part of them not being able to see eye-to-eye...
I just want a happy DB ending....that'd be great...
