Obviously, I couldn't talk about MD Bright's work without mentioning the Milestone imprint! In addition to being a co-creator of Icon and Rocket, he was also a big part of 1994's Worlds Collide event, in which the Milestone characters get to cross into the mainstream DCU and meet the Superman family! Shown here is the one-shot special, certain variants of which even included stickers, allowing fans to essentially construct their own cover scenes! Yep, it was the nineties alright... Rest in power, Mr. Bright.

Black History Month 2021

I'm starting this month off a little differently, rather than focusing on the characters, I want to tell you all about the Dakotaverse and Milestone Comics.

Founded in 1993, Milestone Comics was founded by a coalition of black writers and artists, with the goal of representing minorities that otherwise were very underrepresented. Interestingly, Milestone Comics were published through DC, but Milestone retained almost all creative freedom with their comics. While it was not originally part of the main DC universe, in 2008, they announced that Milestone would be joining the main DC universe, and in September 2020, the Milestone line was revived in "Milestone Returns".

Curtis Metcalf a.k.a. Hardware

One of the first titles of Milestone comics, Curt is a genius inventor who uses a variety of gadgets and weapons to fight crime. Ironically, his employer is secretly a crime boss, and he uses the resources from his employer to take down his boss. Like other Dakotaverse heroes, Hardware joined the main DC universe following the events of Final Crisis. Hardware as even appeared in media as recently as the post-flashpoint Static comics, as well as making an animated Cameo in season 3 of Young Justice
