The greatest comics in my most nostalgic decade!

A time when Batman had his back broken by Bane. A time when Aquaman had a beard, and one hand was replaced by a hook. A time when Tim Drake became the third Robin, and Kyle Rayner the last remaining Green Lantern. A time when Donna Troy joined the Darkstars, and the Atom joined the Teen Titans. A time of new characters like Azrael, Steel, Hitman, Impulse, Zauriel, Argent, Damage, Gunfire, and Half-Life. A time of events like Zero Hour, Armageddon 2001, Bloodlines, One Million, and Legends of the Dead Earth.

Oh... and Superman died, came back with long hair, got married, wrestled an angel, and was split into a red and blue pair. Whew!

During a fight with Batman (Jean Paul Valley), Lady Clayface reflects back on her relationship with Clayface (Preston Payne)! Part of the Knightquest arc, Shadow of the Bat #26 came out in early 1994!

The original Captain Marvel is back for a new and excellent ongoing series, very faithful to the spirit of the iconic character himself! Power of Shazam #1, starring Captain Marvel, debuted in 1995!

With the news that his proper name is back in the most recent issue of Justice League Unlimited, it seems like a great time to celebrate! Wouldn't you agree?

Supergirl (Matrix) has found out what her lover Lex Luthor II was actually up to behind her back, and she's not happy at all, if you couldn't tell by looking! In a rare reversal, Superman has to protect Luthor from Supergirl! But, that's what the feeling of betrayal from someone you trusted so much can do to a person.… The fourth and final issue of this Supergirl miniseries came in mid-1994!

With friends like these, who needs enemies? The Hero of Hawaii ends up on a mission with the Suicide Squad, but one of them is a traitor… Superboy #13 came out in early 1995!

Metamorpho wants to see his kid, and he isn't letting Guy Gardner or anyone else stop him, so get out of the way! Check it out in Justice League Europe #12, from 1990!

Tommy Monaghan gets an unexpected visit from Superman, who tells Tommy about a rescue gone wrong. In turn, Tommy gives Superman a rousing speech about what an inspiration he really is to America, and even gets an autograph! The Eisner award winning Hitman #34 came out right as 1998 was becoming 1999!

A newly engaged Lois and Clark tell Jimmy Olsen their big news when Clark sees a distress signal from a Green Lantern. As Superman, he goes to Guy Gardner to find out why, and Guy finds that Hal Jordan's ring lost power somewhere in Wyoming, so he and Superman go to investigate. They end up helping a stranded alien being get back to his home… in Adventures of Superman #473, from late 1990.

A desperately ill Lex Luthor II pushes staff scientist Sydney Happersen to figure something out quickly, so experiments are done with Superman's DNA… You'd think these people would learn better after a while, wouldn't you? A new imperfect, Bizarro clone is created, and things escalate quickly. Happersen is injured, Hob's Bay is in ruins, and Lois Lane is kidnapped… And eyewitnesses all over Metropolis seem to swear that Superman is responsible for it all! What's a guy to do? Superman #87 is from early 1994!

Silver Banshee comes after Superman once again in Action Comics #662 from 1991, leading to a fight that also includes an appearance by Blaze. But more importantly, Clark Kent finally decides to share his last secret with his fiance, Lois Lane!

What if baby Kal-El had been sent to Oa instead of Earth? What if he'd been raised by the Guardians instead of the Kents? Find out in Superman #147, released in summer of 1999! The One-Man JLA was a vastly underrated arc, exploring similar questions!

I was so saddened the other day to hear about the passing of Peter David. One of the consistently best DC writers of the nineties, I'll always first think of his take on Aquaman when I hear his name. His Aquaman, with the beard and the harpoon, is my Aquaman. Pictured here is the first issue of PAD's ongoing Aquaman comic, released in 1994, in which Aquaman and Aqualad are asked to investigate a sunken submarine. Also featuring the debut appearance of the villain Charybdis, which would cause our hero to need the aforementioned harpoon! Rest in peace, Mr. David.

Alright, something a bit more recognizable for Superman Day, here's the Superman Special from September of 1992, featuring a retelling of the classic Pre-Crisis story of Kryptonite Nevermore and the Sandman Saga! And again, happy Superman Day, nerds of the nineties!

HAPPY SUPERMAN DAY, EVERYONE!!! How about two Supermen for the price of one? The Superman Red/Superman Blue one shot was released right as 1997 was becoming 1998! What a crazy time to be a Superman fan! Anyone think we might ever see this arc adapted to the big screen or the small screen?

Elongated Man has a little too much fun in the team's new headquarters, Power Girl and Doctor Light look for a lost cat, and Amos Fortune returns, leaving a trail of destruction… All of this and possibly more in Justice League Europe #43 from late 1992!
