I must admit that once my DCP program was over, I thought this blog would be too. BUT why start a new blog when my adventures with Disney are really just beginning? I thought it would be great to get back to blogging, right when my career path with Disney is taking a turn to some amazing opportunities! Plus I’m so excited about the process that I wanted to share!
So here’s the quick update on what I’ve been doing since the DCP ended. I finished my program only a few months ago, August 7th, 2015. Now that we’re in 2016 I guess that feels like a pretty long time ago! It was hard getting back to school and doing work, but I successfully completed my first semester of my Junior year back at school at The University of Tampa and have started my second semester. Surprisingly enough even though I took an entire semester off to do the DCP program I’m still graduating on time Spring 2017! That was very exciting and unexpected news. I spent my semester back interning for a local wedding planner in the Tampa area. (Remember the end goal being Disney Fairytale Weddings?) I also took on some event planning opportunities on campus. Needless to say it was quite the hectic semester and this one is already off to a better start!
Over winter break I spent a lot of time focusing on what needed to be added to my resume so that when I graduate from college in a year I’ll have a chance with the Disney Fairytale Wedding Internship. I didn’t know just what I was looking for, but I knew I wasn’t having any success... that was until the week right before coming back to school. Within a week period, two opportunities with Disney had opened up.
About two months ago I applied to a seasonal position with Disney Fairytale Weddings as an assistant, hoping for at least a phone interview so that I could understand that part of the company better and questions I might be asked in the future. Well within about 48 hours I had talked to casting about 5 different times and was being asked to come into an in person interview the very next day. TOTAL WHIRL WIND. The process is still going on, so I don’t have too much to share, nor do I want to jinx myself, but fingers crossed! I’m in the final interview stage for the position and like they say it would be a dream come true.
Within the 48 hours of this process taking place, the DCP Alumni Program opened up for this summer. First of all they do not give much notice as to if there will even be an alumni program AND the application was open for less then 2 days! Although I wouldn’t be able to work in entertainment like in my previous DCP Program, I think it would be a fantastic learning experience. I applied for merchandise and attractions out of the four options of merchandise, attractions, food&bev and custodial. My phone interview is this Wednesday so there will be an update on that soon!
So yes, a lot has been happening within the last few months, and weeks especially. Disney truly is a magical place and a place I call home. I know I will be reunited with Disney soon (at least I certainly hope so), but where to be exact is still the question. Until then, all I can do is have a little faith, trust and pixie dust....
