You were a planner. You had been one all your life. You couldn't help it. Everything needed to be thought through ahead of time. It drove some of your friends nuts.

Why can’t you just go with the flow? Why can’t you just live in the moment?

It was just a fear. An anxiety about forfeiting control. You never felt comfortable enough to just relax. To just let go.

It all came to a head when your friends set you up on a blind date before even consulting you. You were livid. Dating already filled you with debilitating worry, but going out with someone you hadn’t even met? The concept stressed you out to no end.

But when Joe greeted you with a disarming smile and a simple handshake, for some reason you felt at ease. As you exchanged stories over some pizza while crammed into a green leather booth, your guard came down. For the first time in your life, you rolled with the punches, agreeing to follow him down the street to a nearby arcade on a whim, after only knowing the man for an hour.

“Let’s go,” you agreed with a nod and a timid smile. Joe mirrored you, his hazel eyes lighting up before grabbing your hand in his. And you were off.

Joe oozed charm and had a zest for life that was addicting. He made you laugh almost every other sentence. You felt comfortable with him, able to be yourself more than you ever had before. And he recognized your anxieties and honored them, his fingers laced through yours every step of the way. With Joe you tried new things, had new experiences. And even when you had those moments of fear rear their head, Joe was just there to give you a signature grin and say, “it’s okay, I’ve got you.” You believed him.

And he did. He did have you. And you had him.

This is so hard but i’ve been listening to Teo Torriatte a lot lately. also You and I. outside of queen tho i really love Baby I’m Yours and Shes Thunderstorms by arctic monkeys. Oh and I have to mention Good Intentions Paving Company and Easy and Divers by Joanna Newsom (part of me wants to say Soft As Chalk by jnew as well but idk if it really counts as a love song more of a past-love song i think)
