The Tiefling was after a valuable artifact and when he had procured the location of where to find it, he found someone else on the premises. The figure was in sight, but not in full detail. He could see that this one would be taller than him, cursing at it, cursing everyone who towered over him in one way or another. But a slim build, though he could be mistaken. One thing was for sure, that figure was closer to the location than he was and he might not gain on it enough to avoid complications that he could afford having at that time. Caligo could let them take it, follow them and then take it from them, but those had some serious holes too. Though a conflict on the street or a side road was less problematic than getting one during the retrieval of said object.

It was going to be the second option, the one he had to take it from the one who was stealing it, there was no time left to do it otherwise. Caligo kept his eyes set on the spot where the stranger had entered the place and now, he was to wait for the other to come out and follow, then take.

He thought he’d be waiting for a while, but he was surprised by the quickness of the stranger and then followed as silently as he could and by using invisibility, prowling closer until he could finally take it. The last part being a sprint and grabbed the artifact and yanked at it from the other, but their grip was a bit stronger than he suspected and now they were holding it both at the same time. “How about you let go and I’ll let you live?” There was a playfulness to his tone. A dagger in the one hand and artifact in the other.

Nothing had happened, really. But the funny thing about sorrow was that like a steady drip of water, it would leak through his memories and eventually fill up his heart, or break down its walls, and while Vayu wasn't sure whether he wanted to be alone with these thoughts or not, being the only one awake in the house as he did seemed like the worst of both worlds.

Even if anyone else was awake, though: he wasn't going to go to Niraja, certainly. And whatever he felt for Curumë, he didn't want to bother him with this either. It felt like he'd too recently recovered from troubles of his own, after all.

So Vayu chose to go off alone. The loudest sounds in the forest were the crickets and the rustling of grass and twigs as he made his way to a forest clearing where he could see the sky, and sat with his back against a tree trunk. Leaning his head back against the bark, his gaze wandered between the stars, then up to the waxing moon, as he felt his breath steady and slow.

He closed his eyes, and focused on his breathing -- and tried to shut out the other thoughts that caught his mind, the way thorns and burrs latched onto one's boots when wandering through the briar and would have to be picked off. It was a task that demanded enough attention that he wouldn't notice someone else approaching.

"You make it sound like as if you're dying." Connor says. Their voice is not only how deep--it carries the faintest echo that amplifies the overall presence of it. It's hard to detect the tone of his voice for that reason, but a trained ear could catch notes of concern.

ᒥ💗ᒧ—        He been passing by a tent in the camp when he heard a groan from within. Now, anyone would mind their business hearing any sort of groan from a stranger's tent, but Comfort was a healer and knew a pained groan from a...pleasurable one. Or so he hoped, as he knelt down and opened the flap to the tenth cautiously.

What he sees is not private matters, thankfully, but one of the adventurers attempting to stitch up a nasty, weeping gash to the arm by themself. "Ary haf wyruafw?!" Are you serious?! He says in Infernal. Thyneria then invites himself on in to the tent and over to the hurt adventurer.

"Why didn't you come to the healing tent, darling? I would have fixed you up with ease!" The pink tiefling scolds Curumë, taking over the stitching by waving his hand away. "A simple Cure Wounds would have fixed this in a moment, but no...You had to start stitching and now we got to finish it up and clean the wound."

Despite the tiefling's pale and sightless eyes, his blank pupils still flicked to meet the gaze of the half-elf over his dark glasses.

"Tieflings are often seen as... evil things. Sure, most younger folk know different, but some elders are still stuck in old ways. You defended me from men who were afraid, and for that I am grateful." He offered a soft smile, patting the half-elf's now healed shoulder.

"Fear is a powerful thing. I have read countless stories where fear drives even the strongest men to do cowardly things."

"Well that's just plainly untrue." The human glared back from where he lay on his own bedroll, head pillowed on his clasped hands. In the semi-darkness of the forest, the arcane glow of his blue eyes was even more prominent. "Sometimes I think about bread." He wanted to dispute the insult - what Curumë called 'self-destruction' he called 'protecting your friends' - but it fit him too well. Even his own group of friends often gave him the same critique at the end of a quest.

At the end of the day, it didn't matter to Michael, so long as everyone they lived.

"All joking aside, I do think of the future. Quite often." Michael shifted to sit up on his elbows. Three years prior, he'd had no memory of a time that wasn't cold stone walls and an unpredictable, inevitable, painful death around every corner. He'd had no reason to think it would ever end - no reason to spare any thought to what he might do 'after', because 'after' wasn't even a speck on the horizon. "I...didn't have the chance to, for a while," He closed his eyes. "So I'm making up for lost time. And what good is a future with no-one else in it?"

⸻ ℒorroakan had deliberately ignored Raistlin's first two letters. If he were to respond to every request from mages seeking guidance or access to his artifacts, he'd be occupied all day. Thus, he had Miklaur dispose of most of them without giving them a second thought ; he didn't consider them worth his time.

However, Raistlin was persistent, so at last, he bothered to open his third letter. In it, Raistlin described — as vaguely as possible — his research into an artifact that could facilitate delving into the Shadow Weave without the associated risks. That indeed caught Lorroakan's attention and even warranted a response:

While your research has certainly captured my interest, I must caution against discussing it further through written correspondence. Given the delicate nature of the subject, it is best to exercise caution.

Therefore, I extend to you the privilege of visiting my tower in person where we can discuss your findings in more detail. If what you claim about this artifact is true, and it indeed resides within my tower, I may consider allowing you to assist me in its retrieval.

Be warned, however, that a collaboration with me comes with strict conditions. Should you fail to meet my expectations or prove to be a hindrance in any way, our arrangement will be terminated without hesitation.
