⋆⊹˚₊𖦹ׂ ZOMBIE TYPES (intro) 𖦹ׂ ₊˚⊹⋆
A hypothetical zombie apocalypse changes drastically based on the type of zombie you're facing. It affects everything, from the tactics used defend yourself, the weapons you use to do so, how you set up shelter and in general how you survive the world.
I think everyone, regardless of interest in the genre, knows the basic type of zombie that we see portrayed a lot across media. Let's call these 'walkers', since that's a common name for them. These are the stereotypical slow, rotting zombies that usually spread the 'virus' through biting, driven by their hunger for human flesh. We see this type of zombie across a lot of popular media, for example the series The Walking Dead. They're not fast or super agile, but that doesn't mean they're not deadly when you run into them. You can use melee weapons like machetes or baseball bats against them, as well as guns (although that usually means attracting more due to the noise). Basic defenses that would stop the average person are enough to keep them out of an area, e.g tall wired fencing, brick wall.
These zombies typically become more dangerous in large numbers, known as a horde. Obviously this goes for every type of monster (more of dangerous creature = more danger) but it's especially important to keep in mind with walkers, as one or two of them may not pose much of a threat due to their general clumsiness and lack of speed. However, once their numbers begin to stack up, anyone can become easily overwhelmed. This is especially true with the element of a zombie virus/disease; not only are you trying to not get mauled and eaten, but trying to dodge any type of contact in order to avoid getting infected at all costs.
This is the typical world of a zombie apocalypse, but outside of this blueprint there are a wide variety of zombie types. Even within a world of walkers, such as the universe of the videogame Dead Island, there can be variants that emerge due to different factors, whether that be radiation, rapid evolution etc. Dead Island has apex variants which are stronger versions of walkers. These include Crushers, which are basically roided-out walkers (lol) or Butchers, which are very fast and can regenerate health mid-battle by feeding on nearby corpses.
This changes the survival method of the world; it means you have to learn how to deal with every type of zombie you run into. Every type has it's own strengths and weaknesses, meaning you have to adapt to them and possibly carry more weapons or body protection in order to always be prepared for whatever you find. Plus, the way you set up camp has to change in order to keep out the tougher zombies. What about a Breaker from Days Gone? You best believe they could easily break down a door if they wanted to. Again, you have to change your defenses.
I'm going to be writing posts about each type of zombie I've encountered across media (not irl) and let you know how I think they would affect the living conditions of our post-apocalyptic world. This was the intro to what I'm going to be writing. If you read this far, thank you! I hope you liked it. Please let me know what your favourite variant of zombie is in the comments, and if theres a type you want me to include in my posts please let me know! -`♡´-
