Society’s not quite tailor-made for the kind of person Joey chooses to be—has to be—with all her idiosyncrasies. She’ll occasionally wonder whether or not Kenny’s gender plays a role in how she operates and how people interact with her, but there’s no name for it, no way to classify it. It takes root as an afterthought in a quiet corner of her mind, an ellipsis tacked onto the whole thing. She’s Joey, and…dot dot dot.

One day I’ll make you all fanfic writers understand that deaf people in fact do speak and talk, some of them pronounce clearer than others, yes but they DO talk. They aren’t mute, so please, please for the love of god stop writing them as mute too because you are taking away something else from them alongside their hearing. You are taking away their voices too and that’s fucking cruel.

Really though, if my mom could speak english I would fucking record her to show you guys that deaf people DO talk, call, send voice messages and laugh as soundly as the rest of us.

Until then I give up on deaf!fics. Yeah, this is me speaking up, I give up.
