There’s this problem I saw on Facebook. It’s something that had bothered me. I need to say this because I’m so frustrated by these people.
In a comment thread, a Deaf person said they were struggling with communicating with people because the mask were covering faces and he relys on reading lips. Just like me. But there were people who simply didn’t understand the problem. People were like “you can wear a clear face mask or something.” Or straight up accusing the deaf person that he was endangering lives.
It was like people were giving us Deaf people advice that doesn’t apply to us. We don’t need special face masks on us or face sheild. That doesn’t help us. It’s the people we are talking to. We wear masks to stay safe but we can’t see the other’s lips. Deaf people don’t need to accommodate to society. We know what we need to do to keep others safe. Here’s the link for the face mask above!

Tips to NOT piss off a deaf person
Ok so this is just for fun for me, nothing bad happened or some shit. This is a shit post for myself. Enjoy! Or don’t. I really don’t care. Feel free to add anything or complain.
Don’t test our hearing. There’s a spectrum of hearing loss. *screams* can you hear me now?! Can you hear me now?! *shakes head* this is not a bad connection during a call or lemonade mouth. (Can I get a reblog if you know lemonade mouth?)
Don’t say “but you speak so well!” *deep breath* boi. It depends on the way one was raised.
Don’t yell. All we get is your tonsils. *looks at someone yelling* oooh you better get them checked out.
Don’t limbo your way under two people signing. It’s not necessary. It’ll just make ya look a little stupid. Just walk pass them. It’s not a big deal.
Don’t talk too fast or slow. It’s hard to read lips. Like super hard. Some of us might have mastered it but not all. Just talk clearly. Thanks.
Don’t say “but you already seen the movie. You don’t need captions.” Like rikki poytor said in her one of her videos, in that case let’s kill the sound all together.
Don’t assume we all know American sign language. We really don’t. Some of us have different version of sign language. Go look. If you want to learn then awesome. Kudos to ya.
Dont say “I wish I was deaf.” Did it seemed that we wanted to be deaf? Did we had a choice to be deaf? No. But we still love ourselves so...yeah.
Don’t cover your mouth. It may piss someone off but it’s just rude, unless you’re sick. Then cover the bitch up! We don’t want to be sick!
Don’t say “I’m so sorry.” *blinks* like did you made us deaf? Did you pray to the gods for our deafness? Because I wanna know.
Teachers. Please caption all your videos and movies. It really helps.
Waiters, don’t give deaf people Braille. I don’t know why they do that. Just don’t.
Don’t say “if you’re relearning how to hear, it’s not ok to sign.” It’s totally ok. I done research. It’s not really a problem. My doctor told me that when I was just starting out with Cochlear Implants.
Don’t say “you’re fine. You don’t need those things.” Yes we do. That’s why we asked.
When online, don’t ask deaf people if they are really deaf. It’s kinda annoying. I’ve been asked that a few times and it’s annoying.
That’s all I could think of. I hope that you enjoyed it. Be kind people in general. Thank you.

Imagine you need a captioning service for school do you can understand what the fuck is going on in the classroom. You apply to the special education department at the school. You get told. “Your case manager is on vacation rn she’ll be back on June 13.” Later no appointment had been made. You call back and get. “The case manager will be back in July 30th.” Still Nothing afterwards. Finally after 3 months you get an appointment on the first day of school. Great right? No! The appointment is after school! No captions! Fml. That’s my life rn.

I’m red.
Sister: *says something*
Me: what?
Sister: *laughs* never mind.
Me: *screams internally while nodding*
While it is incredibly difficult to understand exactly what it’s like to be deaf, most individuals are aware that hearing difficulty comes with a unique set of challenges. This forces those who are deaf to experience the world in an entirely different way than the rest of the population, ...
Deaf struggles today in the real world. It’s sad but most of us can make a difference.
