Started at a new job and couldn't hear what a coworker had said to me. Co-worker preceeded to tease me, saying, "Girl, what the hell? Are you half deaf or something! "

Figuring it was a good enough time than ever, I disclosed to this co-worker that I was indeed hearing impaired, with single sided deafness impacting my right ear.

Then, as par for the course, he was a bit stunned to find out I went deaf so young but was curious and asked some questions about the how, when, and why of my hearing impairments. All fine and dandy, usual stuff...

Then, the manager who works at the store beside us (he's a good guy who has helped us out since our store first started running). Overheard me and my co-worker's conversation and loudly exclaimed:

"WOW, YOU'VE GOT WHOLE EAR THAT DON'T WORK? I'VE GOT WHOLE ARM THAT DON'T WORK!"

"I'll make you a deal. You do the heavy lifting for me, and I'll do the hearing for you"

- and that's the story of how I was befriended by a guy with erb's palsy, at my job. 👍
