Negotiation and Deal-Making
For the seventh month of my master’s degree program, I wanted to post professional photos of events that I have written terms and agreements for. I was able to find a lot of pictures related to the events that I helped, but I had to contact the photographers that took the pictures and ask them for permission to post the pictures on my website. They allowed me to post three to five of the pictures that I had just as long as it had their logo included in the right bottom corner of the pictures. Now that I had their permission, I then had to ask the business, organization, and/or the individual’s permission to include the title of their event and the date. I initially wanted to include the address as well, unfortunately, the clients disagreed. Overall, I now have professional and clean pictures of events that I helped create terms and agreements and sponsorships for on my website for people to see.
During the first week of this class, I assumed that this class was just going to teach me how to pursue and execute negotiations in the entertainment industry. But, as soon as I participated in the first discussion and Go To Training, I knew that this course would help me learn how to negotiate and make deals pertaining to all aspects of my life. After being in class for only three weeks, I was able to successfully execute my first negotiation - purchase a brand-new queen size Serta mattress bed and box spring for only four hundred dollars- and reflect on how I could make the next negotiation better. This course taught me how to be specific in negotiations, especially pertaining to both my bargaining position ($$$) and underlying interests. Negotiations and Deal-Making has also taught how to be attentive and determine an individual’s communication style so that I am able to establish a connection that may help me not only land a deal, but potentially build a future networking circle. In the end, this course has met and surpassed my main objective and allowed me to create successful negotiations both professionally and personally.
