The day was beautiful -- breezy, but not cold, with the sun shining in a way that made the October day seem special. Alex almost wished that the outside world reflected how riotous he felt inside. It had been years since he’d done this. Sure, he’d tried his hand at dating after his marriage had fallen apart, but those had all been strangers and the prospect of anything real coming from it had seemed farfetched. This, going on a date with someone with whom he had history, that set to flight the butterflies that had taken up permanent residence in his stomach.
“I don’t think I remember how to do this,” Alex admitted, a slightly self-deprecating laugh falling from his lips. He’d safely handed off Mira to Riley with the instructions to have fun but to limit her sugar intake so to prevent the inevitable sugar crash and bad mood that would follow. He was almost sure that the two ladies would disregard his warning, but he’d been obligated to give it anyway. Alex plucked at the hemline of the tee shirt he’d chosen to wear today. The tee, ball cap, and jeans were a far cry from his usual outfits, but he’d opted to leave behind the button down and slacks he usually wore on work days. “The last time I went on a date I spent the majority of the time talking about my kid, so I’m apologizing in advance.”
