Proof I have a jimdestiel fic in progress, life’s just being a bitch right now.
Premise: After years of being unconscious since their death to Lucifer, Jimmy wakes up inside his body to a newly-human Cas right after Dean asks him to leave the bunker. They’re both human now, neither being able to leave their body, and having to survive out in the world on their own.
Have this snippet.
“Castiel…”
“Cas.”
Jimmy stopped.
“What?..”
He watched Castiel lower their gaze sheepishly.
“That is what Sam and Dean call me.” He explained. “It doesn’t feel right to keep calling myself ‘Castiel’ when I am no longer an angel.”
That was new. Jimmy once called Castiel “Cas” himself, in the heat of the moment, as he was desperately praying for the angel to save his family from demons. He vaguely remembered the Winchesters call him that as well. Jimmy didn’t recall Castiel himself objecting to the nickname, or preferring it to his full name. Frankly, their emotional barriers were way more solid back then, and Jimmy couldn’t access the angel’s emotions in the moment.
Unlike right now, as Jimmy was feeling every little and big thing Castiel was feeling. It was like, as the former angel’s grace had gone, so had the walls between them. Like their souls, or rather soul and soul-like entity, meshed together, and along with them — their emotions.
“Alright. Cas.” He tested the name. Somehow, it felt more intimate than using the full one, like one more layer of separation between them dissipated. “There’s one thing I don’t understand. Why don’t you ask the Winchester brothers for help?”
Jimmy knew those two were important to heaven. That was how they met Cas. From the way the former angel talked about the brothers, Jimmy assumed they grew quite close in the years he was absent. Surely, they would offer their help if Castiel were to ask?
Except, as soon as those words were communciated to Cas, the anguish inside of them amplified tenfold. Jimmy felt their throat constrict, and a wave of thousands little pins pierce their chest.
Suddenly, Jimmy felt fear.
“Cas… What happened with the Winchesters?”
Castiel, his almost finished meal discarded beside him on the bench, sat frozen for a moment. Jimmy would have thought him asleep if not for the pangs of grief running through their body, from the depth of their chest and down to their limbs. A wave through their throat, then utter and dull silence. A wave again, prefaced by an inner jolt of realization. A foggy, grainy filter over their thoughts. A shock again.
Jimmy recognised what this was. He’d felt it himself, in the brief time he was in control of his body again, Cas having been dragged away to heaven temporarily. It’s how your body attempted to rationalize what happened to you. Something so horrible it had to block the thoughts before they became too much.
“I– They’re fine…” Cas spoke out loud. Perhaps, doing that, instead of thinking his reply, made it easier to get the words out. “I did ask them for assistance, yes.” Castiel’s voice was shaky.
“What did they say?” Jimmy prompted carefully.
Cas took a trembling breath. Closed their eyes.
“Dean asked me to leave.” He whispered, just barely. “He said I couldn’t stay with them.”
Jimmy took a second to process that information.
“What? But… why?” He asked.
“I don’t know.” Cas uttered, so quietly that, if Jimmy was not inside their head, he would not have heard him at all. “I… I don’t know.”
Grief. A tightness in their throat.
Suddenly, it all made sense.
“Oh, Cas…”
The pain, the grief — it was for this. Not just the loss of grace, but loss of family. Castiel lost the angels, and now — his new, found family, the only two people in the world who accepted him as he was.
Just like Cas, Jimmy didn’t understand why. From what he’d seen, and what he’d heard, both Sam and Dean seemed to value Castiel. Dean especially. What could have possibly motivated them to just… abandon Cas like that? A newly human, vulnerable, remorseful Cas, the one who thought of himself so badly he refused to buy even scraps of food to sustain himself.
“I understand your confusion.” He heard Cas speak, back to communicating inside their head. It seemed that Jimmy’s feelings were so loud that Cas decided to address them directly. “Dean told me it was because I was a threat to their safety. I am being hunted by all angels on Earth, after all.”
Their safety.
Oh, Jimmy wasn’t feeling just confused. He felt furious.
“What the actual fuck?” Jimmy felt Cas flinch, not expecting him to curse like that. “Their safety? What about your safety, Cas?! You’re human! You’re being hunted by every angel in creation! How is Dean,” he spat the name out, “expecting you to defend yourself against that?! Fuck, forget the angels, you could be ambushed by a drunk looking for a fight and die!”
“Jimmy…” Cas whispered tentatively.
“No, Cas! Just… no!” He interrupted.
If Jimmy were in control, he would be stomping around, fuming with anger. Who did those Winchesters think they were?! Convincing an angel to rebel against heaven for them, die for them — multiple times, — save their asses from an angelic civil war, and then just discard him when he became an inconvenience?!
“J-Jimmy, I’m…”
Jimmy stopped his inner raging at the shaky voice. He tuned back into Cas’ feelings.
Jimmy, or Cas, felt… Anxious. Sad. Heartbroken. Panicked..?
He realized the former angel’s breathing was starting to become quicker, more irregular.
“Cas!” Instantly, Jimmy’s anger turned into concern. “I’m sorry, Cas, I got carried away. Please, breathe, okay?” He pleaded as Castiel’s breathing grew increasingly erratic.
“J-Jimmy… I’m s-sor– W-Wha–”
Cas stood up from the bench and clutched at their shirt. Their eyes filled with tears.
Cas was feeling very, very freaked out. He was clawing at his chest, as if he wanted rip out the feelings choking him from the inside. Jimmy had a realization that this was probably Cas’ first ever panic attack. Or any sort of experience with strong emotions. Point was, the former angel had no idea how to deal with the overwhelming feelings.
“Cas, Cas, it’s okay, you’re okay. It’s just a panic attack, you’re gonna be okay! I can help you get through this, if you listen to me!” He pleaded for Cas, hoping his words reached him. Fortunately, it seemed that Castiel heard him, as he stopped trying to squeeze at his own chest. “Okay, good, I want you to take deep breaths with me, okay? In… and out. In… and out.”
Cas obeyed Jimmy’s commands with utmost trust, taking shaky breaths along with his words. With how quick he was to do so, it seemed like Cas had been starving for any kind of guidance, any support. That fact made Jimmy feel very, very sad, but also grateful to be there with him.
If not for Jimmy, right now Cas, human and lost, would be utterly, profoundly alone. And not a single creature in the entire universe would be there to offer him support.
Right there and then, as Castiel — kind, well-meaning Castiel — calmed his lost heart to the count of a human soul inside him, Jimmy came to a decision. After all this time, their past disagreements didn’t matter that much, not really. Not when they both had changed so much, grown way beyond who they were when they first met.
And so, Jimmy would stay. He would try to become someone this cosmic, unfathomable being could lean on. Jimmy may not have a great purpose to serve, but he could do this one thing. He could support Castiel. Guide him. Help him survive in this cruel world.
They both had lost so much. Too much. They lost the only family they’ve ever known, through no fault of their own. They had no one and nowhere to go. But, Jimmy thought, they could have each other. He wouldn’t leave Cas alone.
i just think that the theory that "dean and cas have chemistry because jensen and misha do" is wrong, because if it were then dean and jimmy novak would have chemistry, and they're as compatible as a rock and a piece of glass
Ew you're a proshipper? Not all ships are valid, not by a long shot.
I am, in fact. I am of no authority to tell someone what they should, or should not ship. There is enough negativity in the world, without bringing it to fandoms. If something as simple as shipping brings people joy, I am all for it. It doesn't hurt anyone, and I'll be as damned as Lucifer before I pass that kind of judgement on others.
The second to last chapter of Edging is now up on AO3!
Edging is a canon divergence Dean/Cas/Jimmy fic where Dean Winchester, Castiel and Castiel’s vessel Jimmy Novak get together at the end of 5.04 The End. They grapple with the consent issues inherent in such a relationship and help each other navigate through their various traumas.
It’s part of a series. The next fic will continue to explore the ways things change and stay the same once Dean Jimmy and Cas are a triad, and will feature the unlikely couple of Sam/Balthazar as Sam tries to deal with his hallucinations from his time in the cage.
What is it?
A creations challenge (which includes fics, art, vidding, giffing, and any other form of art used for fan creations) just for the Rare Ships (“rare” is anything that isn’t the two main ships). So come and show your love for the ships that never get enough!

*bursts through the door* Excuse me, but do you have a moment to talk about DeanJimmy? Okay, awesome, because DeanJimny would include:
Dean and Jimmy being the biggest nerds on the planet. they need a referee when it comes to their “discussions” about which Star Trek series is the best.
sacred movie nights
Jimmy stealing Dean’s clothes whenever he gets the chance.
good-natured ribbing
they have a rose garden in their front lawn because of course they do
dad jokes! so many god awful dad jokes.
PTA dads who get super involved with their daughter Claire’s school. No one is sure who’s the bigger gossiper though. Most of the time it’s Jimmy, but don’t get Dean started on Becky and her dry ass brownies. He seriously will not shut up.
idyllic suburban life by day, kinky sex by night. (They have a hook hanging from their bedroom ceiling.)
Dean develops almost an embarrassing crush on Jimmy. He’s so used to Cas, and seeing his face, his body, but on another man — it does something to him.
Jimmy is so different, so expressive. When he smiles, his eyes are open, his eyebrows are high up, and his whole face seems to glow. His voice is bright and easy, so different from Cas’ rumbling tone.
Dean likes Cas just the way he is, don’t get him wrong. It is precisely because Jimmy is so different, that Dean’s heart seems to leap out of his chest each time those curious, wide eyes meet his. Jimmy speaks with his soft voice, and Dean seems to forget what he wanted to ask. He stutters out a string of words that would line up into a clever, flirty joke any other time, but with Jimmy just don’t seem to make sense. But Jimmy’s eyes widen, mouth parted curiously, and he laughs anyway, bright and open.
Cas would tilt his head to the side and say something incredibly endearing. Dean would blink and burst out laughing, and Cas’ face would relax into a tiny smile, eyes crinkled in amusement. Dean would wonder if Cas was feigning ignorance just to make him laugh, and at that thought, his heart would skip a beat.
Jimmy is so different, nothing like Cas at all, it makes Dean feel like his own heart is betraying him. But Jimmy’s eyes are sky-blue, a wonder of the world, and Cas’ are gentle waves, glimmering with something warm, and as Dean meets them both, he wonders how he can look away.
