Ok so I've never posted here ever but I just had a fanfic idea and to write it for real I need to write this first.
I re-read the entire Murderbot Diaries series after watching the show, and then right after I watched "Dear Child" for the first time. I was lying in bed looking at the ceiling last night and suddenly it JUST CAME TO ME. The most WRENCHING crossover in the history of mankind.
'Papa' has this idea of a perfect family he's trying to create, right? So...what if, in this universe, a SecUnit happened to be part of that vision? In his mind, probably a similar concept to having a family guard dog. SecUnit still has its governor module active until the woman directly before Jasmin, the one that she replaces, happens to leave some SecUnit schematics 'lying around' and 'Papa' later murders her for it. Then she's replaced by Jasmin, and canon continues but now SecUnit is there.
After Jonathan gets transferred to the children's hospital, and its found out that Jasmin wouldn't be able to handle SecUnit even being in the same room because of flashbacks/past trauma, its given back to its original company, who then proceed to rent it out to PresAux.
Imagine this: SecUnit also does the hands thing, like Hannah does. It's completely unused to, y'know, really doing security and actually protecting people, because its used to standing around and not being able to do anything when people get hurt, which makes it more awkward but somehow no less badass. At the same time as discovering that its governor module is borked, Gurathin sees some past traumatic memories related to the 'family'. Instead of the thing it needs to investigate being the incident on TranRollinHyfa, at the end of the fic it decides to go off and find Jasmin, Jonathan, and Hannah, to make sure they're still safe and maybe kill 'Papa' for good. Maybe the memories it sends ART isn't just getting punished by the governor module but the horrors it saw 'Papa' do as well. DO YOU SEE MY VISION?
~Liebes kind~ Dear Child e1 - Hannah (2023) dir. I. Kleefeld, J. Pörksen
Dear Child is hands-down the best limited series I've seen in a long time. It does a super job at portraying PTSD, and there are lots of realistic characters! And that ending
It's on Netflix and it's only six episodes long, go watch it
Dear eldest child/breadwinner,
It gets better. :) :)
Hold on tight.
Sometimes you gotta teach people how to love themselves so they can have better chances at loving you right.
The process is hard. But you already know it even if I don't say it. The things worth fighting for would never come so easily. Hang in there anyway. Love yourself anyway. Only if you love yourself and be forgiving of yourself, can you help and inspire others to change.
Dear child is an investigative psychological thriller more focused on the victims' trauma than the Criminal's twisted need.
More in my review
Dear Child is an initiative to counter dehumanizing media about children in Gaza and other warzones. It was founded after the incredible work of Chris Hedges, a writer, activist, and philosopher. The initiative is led by people who care deeply for the rights of all peoples around the world & especially children. We recognize many western media narratives as an obstacle to peace in Gaza and other parts of the world.

Written as a letter to a child in Gaza by @ChrisHedgesChannel, the film takes the audience on a haunting & realistic journey through Gaza today from a child’s perspective imbued with guilt of a foreign journalist. Stylish, artistic, horrifying, yet hopeful that we can do better. We must. Directed by Devin Peters Written by Chris Hedges Narrated by Eunice Wong Creative Director - Ben McFarlane Producer - Christian Dyson Lead Animator Jesus Barrios
I just watched Dear Child on Netflix and I had to immediately search “dear child ending explained”. I was so confused the whole time.
