Second, okay I LOVE your question. I'll try to answer it in the least rambly way possible, hold on.

So, the thing is, I love fake dating storylines so I knew I wanted to write one, but I was really struggling with figuring out Todoroki's motivation at first.
The problem was that he is a VERY blunt character so I kept asking myself what could possibly motivate him to be in a fake relationship. I considered that maybe it would piss off Endeavor somehow. The problem with that was I couldn't picture Todoroki lying to 1-A about the relationship if the intended audience was his father and I really wanted to explore 1-A's reactions and how that would contribute to the story.
The more I thought it, the more I just couldn't picture Todoroki bothering to lie at all. But I still REALLY wanted to explore a fake dating storyline.
So I asked myself: What if HE thought they were in a committed romantic relationship, but due to some silly miscommunication, SHE thought they were just pretending? And what if she already had feelings for him? What if she was caught in a bizarre situation where she could display her true feelings for him publicly with hand-holding and other forms of PDA but was constantly trying to hold back and act like "just a friend" when the two of them were alone?
And long story short, that's how the miscommunication part of this story was born!
