Zuko once visited the Earth King's palace and the Earth King asked him what he would want as a token of good will between their nations, and Zuko asked for one of the crystals from the catacombs, because "it was where he first began to understand his true destiny."

The Earth King was very flattered, but Zuko never told anyone the real reason behind the token's meaning.
