“For the last few years I’ve been low-key hoarding VHS tapes. It started when I didn’t have Netflix and discovered that they were just 99 cents at the thrift store, but since then I’ve got really attached to them. With this video, Joey and I tried to capture that same simplicity. We drank whisky in a white room and played through the song until it felt like it feels live. I’m so happy with how it turned out, and I hope watching it feels a bit like I do when I watch thrift store VHS tapes”, so Boniface selbst.
I don’t care what sort of antipathy is broiling in our government right now when it comes to our friends to the north, but I’ll always be grateful for all the immense music that comes out of Canada, and I hope to visit some of the historic venues and cities that have spawned said artistic brilliance in the future. Case in point, this rising Canadian singer songwriting project, Boniface, and his new single Dear Megan. The song, produced alongside Steph Marziano (Radiohead, Alvvays), is a journey into Boniface’s inner psyche. Frenetic guitars and glistering synths propel us into a world of unbridled, triumphant alt pop energy, topped off with deep gravelly vocals. Micah Visser (aka Boniface) states: “This one is special for me. I wrote it when I had just moved out of my parents’ house and I was feeling so overwhelmed and a little bit reckless. It was the middle of summer and I was happy but also filled with a lot of anxiety and it helped to go out and be surrounded by people. I was nervous and excited and trying to channel it all into my writing. I think that’s what the song is about really, being overwhelmed by the future but embracing the moment. Really believing in it.” On the heels of his appearances at SXSW, The Great Escape and Reeperbahn, plus a run of dates in support of Lo Moon, Boniface will be touring across the U.S. and EU this fall. Keep up with Boniface on his website, here.
[News] Boniface legt mit “Dear Megan” nach
Micah Visser aka Boniface präsentiert nach “Phantom Limbs” und “I Will Not Return As A Tourist” einen weiteren neuen Track. “Dear Megan” heißt das Stück und wurde zusammen mit Steph Marziano (Radiohead, Alvvays) produziert. Der Kanadier selbst sagt über den Song: “This one is special for me. Really believing in it.” Musikalisch präsentiert Boniface hier treibende Beats im Einklang 80s Synthies - ein Zusammenspiel, das euphoriosch und ideal tanzbar daherkommt.
Don't fuck up like you did last year. Bottle it up. Keep it inside. Don't be so trusting. You make yourself vulnerable and then they use it as an excuse. Use that backbone. Stand up for yourself. Don't just sit and take it. This year will be different. It has to be. Sit down and shut up about tender, personal, squishy things. You're number one you're number one you're number one in your life. Fuck everyone who belittles you, treats you like a child, and the hypocrites. Fuck everyone.
