Day 13 and the last day of work (Dear Intern Diary)

Dear Intern Diary,

My last day of work! Bummer, I kind of liked it there, they were so nice to me all the time and so patient. How did it go? Well, since it was one of the artists’ birthday and my last day, I bought them chocolates as a thank you gift. The day was smooth, as always, I still helped with the guys using the laminator (they had so much work to do and I really don’t like doing nothing in there so basically I develop at work helping everyone in the workshop) and the guys from the workshop were all saying thanks to me for helping them and how much I learned from them. Finally in lunch time, we all went to a restaurant and celebrate the farewell and birthday. Again, there was a speech by saying thank you for me helping everyone at work and that hopefully I will work with them later in life. At the end of this, I did had fun around them and learned allot. The dedication that everyone has at work and how they treat their clients, those were things that I observed in there for the last dozens of days. I mean, all of them are family really, a group of 9 people in a workshop and office that make the hours count just to make their clients satisfied and happy with the service that they have. I honestly wish I could work with them again, I really do. If you are asking what am I going to do right now? Study, that's the answer, because all of them did so they had the job that they have today.

Day 12 (Dear Intern Diary)

Dear Intern Diary,

I finished the banner for the field day, and that took a while. At first, the client wanted a banner of super kids with Gotham on the background and that the design itself of the banner looked like it was out of a comic. And not only that, she wanted a dozen design of stickers of pop up words of values and virtues looking like it was the “Boom!” and “Pow!” of the comics. Then, she calls (right after I finished the banner) and she goes saying that she found this lovely image of this kid with a superhero cape and she wish that I could put that in the banner. I didn’t wanted to say no to her, but the problem of that was that I had to buy the image (because it was a Shutterstock image) and that means she needs to pay extra for it –and she already had a big budget for the things she asked-. I told her what’s up with her idea, and she accepted the offer of paying extra just for the image. So I did what she asked, and she had what she wanted, her beautiful banner. By the way, today I finished my 80th hour supervised practice! And because the guys from work want to celebrate the birthday of one of the co-workers and my farewell, I have to go to work for another day.

Day 11 (Dear Intern Diary)

Dear Intern Diary,

Finally! I finished the designs for the office, and M (not going to say her full name because of discretion) loves it! Also, the same client that asked for a design for the futsal t-shirts called me to make a banner for a field day about super heroes. I discovered that this client’s school really goes big or go home because she is very perfectionist when it comes to what she wants.

Day 10 (Dear Intern Diary)

Dear Intern Diary,

I was just continuing with the office design for the boss’ wife and helping with the artists with the editing on the arts that some clients ask.

Day 9 (Dear Intern Diary)

Dear Intern Diary,

The week earlier, I heard in my office the boss talking with this woman and she said that she found an old newspaper with her grandfather of 100 years old in it. My task: retouch the newspaper and print it. Also, the boss’ wife wanted to decorate her office with designs, and she wants me to do it. And, one of the guys from the printing process ‘client called so that someone can make a banner for a birthday, and that person to do it was me. From this, I learned that I know that I’m capable of design a whole birthday theme for my sister or any kid later in life.

Day 8 (Dear Intern Diary)

Dear Intern Diary,

I didn’t stayed all day at work, so all I did was help everyone by supporting on the finishing process in material POP (those boxes and cards that the supermarket have to promote a product), and I learned how to label and use the laminator –honestly, that is the hardest thing since I’m not perfect at measurements, but I made it-.

Day 7 (Dear Intern Diary)

Dear Intern Diary,

I helped one of the artists by vectorizing an art for the instructions on how to open a sangria box. So if you see a box of sangria with instructions on the back, probably that was me.

Day 6 (Dear Intern Diary)

Dear Intern Diary,

With this job I found four types of clients that I had to work with. The first type of clients is the ones who are very specific in what they want. The second type is the one who is not sure of what they want. The third type is the one who doesn’t exactly know what they want, but they are sure of what they don’t want. And the four type, the one who says that they want you to do something but they put you on hold waiting for them to appear with the things that you asked for them (like images, logos, the whole design that someone else did but in another format that I can edit the job) and they suddenly disappear because you explain to them that you need those or you can’t work what they ask for. Yeah, that has been my client. So this person has been calling all week long, nobody wanted to do the job and the boss puts me on charge -which I didn’t mind because I didn’t have much work to do-. The task was easy: edit some parts of the document that was already designed so it can be later pressed in brochures and a roll up (roll up: the big banner of fabric that you see in any event at the entrance of the door, clearly you are not noticing that because we all know that you just want to sit down in the event and later have the free food that they give at the end). Sounds easy the task, right? Well, it could have been easy if the client had sent it on an edited format, but she sends it on PDF. I communicated with her and she went like “Oh, sorry… It’s just the artist had sent me this one”. I understand, it’s not her fault, but then I ask her to communicate with him and send her in one of the formats that we work. She never answered my emails or phone calls… That was my day, knowing about the fourth type of client.
