sure I know it’s probably not going to happen and vanessa will be back with ethan and we will all die out of boredom
but I actually think that her staying on the “dark side” would be a) much more interesting b) actually make much more sense with who she is a person? her turning has never had anything to do with wanting to inflict pain or kill people or even be powerful, actually. not more than to be able to fully and completely control your own life. instead, it’s very often repeated - and for a reason - that she’s the Mother of Evil. Mother of the monsters, Mother of those who have to hide in the dark, in the filthy dungeons. have we seen vampires, or any other monsters on this show, to be someone others would envy? no. every monster on this show, every demon, every creature of the night, including dracula’s children, has been shown as starving, cowering, watchful, afraid and pretty pathetic figure.
and it makes sense, because they were all servants. even dracula, despite calling other vampires his ‘children’, is only refered to by them as ‘the Master’. you don’t get love from your Master. you might get attention, you might get loyalty, you might get a little affection, attachment. but not love.
now Mother, on the other hand... Mother is there to listen to her children, help them, hold them close, and love them. and is there anything vanessa does better than to understand and open her heart for those others won’t even look at twice? she’s always been naturally drown to them, those who mirror her own suffering, and wanted to give them her smile, the touch of her hand, the kind look. don’t tell me all these night creatures and monsters are the worst of the worst. can’t we really find amongst them someone like caliban - someone who’s hurt people, killed them even, someone who’s resented his own nature and instincts/temper? what about children turned vampires before they even grew up? what about centuries-old creatures who had to watch everyone they loved die? what about those who hate their own thirst for blood, those who yearn for conversation, for the memory of the life they once had? or, similarily to lily’s girls, have never had?
don’t tell me they don’t have their stories to tell. don’t tell me there’s anyone other than vanessa to hear them. if there’s one person on this show who could give love to the monsters, it’s her.
I’m not saying the show will go there, because I’m pretty sure it won’t. but what an amazing thing it would be to watch.
