I love Tom Loftis so much this man has been living in a horror movie and is fully aware he’s in a horror movie and yet he categorically REFUSES to be in a horror movie

Stop making this about you. It's not about you! I'm sorry, but I am not the reason that you don't have any friends. It's because you're fucking insane. Okay? Your little party? It almost killed everyone. And now you've ruined book club.
WIDOW'S BAY, 1x08 "Your Baggage"
SHAWN HATOSY as ANDREW ‘POPE’ CODY ANIMAL KINGDOM SEASON 2, EPISODE 4
Okay Andrew as a house husband do you see my vision? Walk with me, he and Amy are together but he doesn’t know how normal jobs work so he mostly stays home and looks after the house happily cleaning and cooking
I see your vision I love your vision I support your vision! Because yes the thing about Andrew right is that he enjoys looking after the people he loves. I think he could thrive at that and also as, dare I say it, a stay-at-home dad.
He's a caretaker at heart but he's been manipulated his whole life into the role and belief that his only measurable use to take care of his loved ones is as a violent and intimidating enforcer. And he's good at it and it works and the capability for it will always be a part of him, but not-so-deep-down it isn't what he wants.
He takes good care of Lena. He looks after his brothers. With Amy there's obviously stuff behind the scenes that's massively complicating things, but he's lovely and supportive for her when it comes to the situation with Chris. He brings food to the kids at the skatepark because it upsets him that they don't have enough to eat—not only that, he cooks for them when it would have been far easier to just buy it. But the act itself matters, that level of care in the preparation of even a simple meal means something to him.
Because of how his brain works I do think it would be important for him to have additional things to focus on. Deran says he "gets weird" when he doesn't have something to do, which isn't a kind way to put it at all but he does need the routine and outlet for intense focus he gets from a project. He would struggle with a normal job structure for sure but something in more of a freelance-type structure could suit him. He likes cars, maybe he could work on cars on a when-he-feels-like-it basis. He could get really focused on it, work only with people he wants to who'd appreciate his passion and attention to detail, it would suit a schedule where he can do it around other responsibilities because it's on his own time. And if he has a stretch where his mind isn't in the right place for it—which could absolutely happen—he can just not accept clients until he's feeling up to it again.
So yeah I think the transition for him to a largely at-home family guy could actually be great. And it wouldn't be in a transactional attitude from Amy like "I only keep you around to the extent that you can do xyz for me" (which is how I think he often feels within the family) but rather "you're important and have value and these are the ways we look after each other." Everyone wants to feel useful and appreciated. And there's a ton of trust there especially if it includes taking care of Chris and any potential future kids they have. For Andrew to know that Amy loves him enough to entrust the care of their children to him? That's huge.
Protecting his family wouldn't be a thing that engages the worst parts of him anymore. Protecting your family can mean ensuring they have good meals to eat, and a clean home, and that they get to and from school on time, and that you're there when they've had a hard day at work. And protecting your family now means that they protect you too—they see all the things you do for them, and they care and support you on hard days where your mind is working against you, and they try to respect your idiosyncrasies even when they don't understand them because they know they matter to you, and they do the things you want to do on your birthday because they like to see you happy, and they want you around just because you're you.
Tom Loftis + Possibly having the worst night of his life Widow's Bay, S01E07
"average small seaside town has 3 curses on it" factoid actualy just statistical error. average small seaside town has 0 curses on it. Widows Bay, Located in New England & who’s residents experience the horrors everyday of the week, is an outlier adn should not have been counted
they injected me with mental illness when i was a baby because they didn't like that i radiated moonlight and had stars inside my eyes. they were jealous of me.
