Cold (Romy)

A small drabble I got the idea from a discussion on discord !

Romy - Angst - Spoiler X-Men 97

The explosion had isolated them from the others. It's kind of ironic that it's Rogue, from all of them, who get stuck alone with him. It was also inevitable. She doesn't care about their others opponents, or even about the end of the world. Only Remy matters. It was always about him, and there isn't a point in saving the world if she can't save him.

"Remy," she says sofly.

He doesn't looked like himself anymore. His hair is too white, his skin too grey, the red of his eyes too empty. He has lost everything that made him the wonderful man, full of life and warm, she once knew.

He answers her by a mocking smirk.

Even if she can't explain it, she don't doubt he recognize her. He knows exactly who she is, what she represented for him. What he represented for her.

There are so much feelings inside of her, she isn't sure which one was the impulsion that propels her toward him. The pain from the grief. The rage and the injustice. The love that pulses from every fiber of her being. The mix of them all, and this need to help him, to save him, to feel him, to make sure he's still here, burried behind all the suffering.

She rushes to him like an unstoppable cannonball, her hands outstretched to reach him, as unreachable as he is. The collision of their bodies is brutal, like two rocks crashing into each other. Hard and immutable. There is no softness, no tenderness, no warmness. She puts her bare hand on his cheek, and her lips on his. The cold he irradiates penetrated into her like liquid nitrogen.

Freezing. Destructive. Lifeless.

There is nothing else.

They were kissing but there is no warm, no energy, no trace of anything human. As powerful as he is, she isn't absorbing anything because he's not living.

She withdraws, eyes wide and wet.

He smiles again.

"Problem, chère?"

His voice is as cold as his skin, devoid of any humanity.

"Remy," she breathes, strangled by despair.

His smile becomes dangerous, and he grabs her by the throat, uplifting her like she weighs nothing. She doesn't even try to resist, tears escaping her eyes as she realizes how icy his hand is around her neck.

"Remy doesn't exist anymore. The name is Death now. Remember it."

Would it be possible for Rogue to absorb Death’s powers?

I was thinking about how X Men 97 might bring Remy back as Death and somehow it shifted into Rogue kissing him, absorbing the powers, and the deck getting flipped. Suddenly Gambit is trying to pull Rogue back from the brink.
