An old photograph sitting on top of the fridge. She laughed softly when the young lady asks about it. "Everyone was startled that the crib was already child-proof. I told them - there was no way to Light-proof. Nothing could keep him from his baby sister."

Summary: There is a leather chair in the Kira Headquarters. And no one loves it more than the lead detective and prime suspect.

Note: I got inspired by @icestorming’s wonderful post where they drew Light and L being all touchy and close lol. Here’s the link to that post: https://icestorming.tumblr.com/post/628412651265032192/au-where-everything-is-the-same-except-l-and-light
If asked, Light would say he’s never acted on any petty impulses in his life. He would say petty retaliation is for fools and the easily offended. That he’s not like other people so it doesn’t apply to him. None of his actions could ever be called petty, it’s just justice.
So, one day, when Light decides that L’s evening cake would look more delectable on the floor, he “accidentally” slides it off the table while he was rearranging some papers. It was a smooth and clean action, he only meant to move the cake an inch, he claimed, and yet the platter was too smooth and slid away 5 inches off the table. He pretended to be appropriately apologetic, but inwardly he thought the chocolate raspberry cake looked much better splattered across the floor like a Pollock painting. L, obviously didn’t share his same opinion, and to his and everyone’s surprise he got up and said, “No worries, Light-kun. I will accept your apology when you make me another.”
“What?”
“Follow me, Watari will give you the recipe, and maybe then you’ll appreciate the effort that goes into these desserts. I also hope that in the future you’ll consider not destroying them the next time you feel vengeful. Think of it as an educational opportunity, if you will. I do think you’ve been lacking on those recently.”
“And whose fault would that be?”
“Yours. If you weren’t Kira you wouldn’t be here.”
Any vindication Light felt about the fallen cake was distinctly evaporated and all that was left was bewilderment and righteous indignation.
“I’m not Kira,” Light hisses for the thousandth time. Each time feels like a drain on his soul. He hates it.
Once they are in the kitchens, the recipe for the recently departed cake is indeed on the kitchen table. He has a moment of wondering how on Earth Watari did that without speaking to L first but then he recalls the cameras and feels distubred for another reason instead. It’s easy to forget about all the eyes in this building.
Picking up the recipe and reading it over, Light can’t believe this isn’t a joke. It does not seem like a good use of their time at all. But, of course, L brought his laptop with him so he could work while Light baked--not without keeping his eye on him of course. The recipe is not very difficult but it will take time. He sighs because he knows he’ll have to pick up the work he fell behind on while baking this stupid cake--maybe even stay up late that night and work with L, the perpetual night owl.
Getting to work on the cake, Light gets lost in the measured and precise process of following the instructions. It’s very easy to slip away into his own thoughts and mixing the batter and measuring the ingredients is meditative in its own way. It’s only irksome and annoying when he has to move somewhere for a certain utensil or look for ingredients, because L is like dead weight behind him and moves so slowly. Light tries to sneakily switch the sugar with salt and the cinnamon with cayenne but L catches him and asks if Light would like to get his sight checked out.
Once the cake is finished, it’s technically perfect, but it does not have the elegance of desert expertise that Watari had. L tries a piece of the cake, declares it adequate and then doesn’t eat anymore of it. Instead, sauntering to the fridge and grabbing an identical to the one Light just made and pulling the chain so Light follows him back to the work room. The rest of the day, Light daydreams of smashing Ryuzaki’s face into the cake.
Funny thing about my DNTober thing that I got so stuck on - it was for Roleswap, and I was gonna bring it back around for Redesign so I could show off the looks a little more.
