What I Read This Week: 06/14/2026
I used to work in public libraries and did a LOT of readers advisory; I miss that part of the job!
BUT; I do still read a metric shit-ton in a week. Most of it is fanfiction, but hey, I thought maybe it's time I share my reads?
This is what I read this week:
1. the hell we call home by ThePomeloHarvest [51,397]
Summary:
Jiang Cheng smiled slightly and finally gave in. He missed his brother more than he was willing to admit. He didn't care about laboratories. He didn't care about bioengineering. However, he hadn't seen his brother in years, and if he could spend some time with him, if he could pull him out of this madness for a moment, distract him from microscopes, test tubes, and reptile dung, he was willing to give it a try.
And so, he packed his bags and flew to Costa Rica. He was going to Isla Nublar, he was going to see Wei Wuxian.

Aka, the Jurassic Park SangCheng AU.
Holy shit this was so good!
The art was STUNNING, the story gorgeous
Nie Huaisang's entire being had me tearing up in this
What a fantastic meet cute to ride or die pipeline
2. Deathly Fates by Tesia Tsai [368 Pages]
Summary:
As a corpse-driving priestess, a holy servant paid to guide the deceased home, Kang Siying has never feared death. But when her beloved father collapses due to his declining health, Siying realizes that even she is not free from the cruel grasp of mortality. Desperate to provide her father with the medical aid he needs, Siying accepts a dangerous job that promises a generous commission, and travels to a hostile state to retrieve the corpse of a missing prince.
But the moment Siying places her reanimation talisman on the dead prince's head, rather than make the corpse obedient to Siying's commands, the talisman brings the prince back to life. Worse, he won't stay alive for long―not unless he absorbs enough qi, or life force, to keep his soul anchored to his body.
In return for a reward worth twice her original commission, Siying agrees to aid the frustratingly handsome prince in finding and purifying evil spirits for their qi. But as they journey across the countryside, encountering vengeful ghosts and enemy spies alike, they gradually uncover dark secrets about the prince's death―secrets that could endanger both Siying's father and their entire kingdom.
This legitimately had me tearing up in public
What fantastic story and worldbuilding for a stand alone novel!
I don't normally read het romances but aaaah this was wonderful. The political machinations and the magic were also delightful.
3. auspicious agony by astutearies [227, 675]
Summary:
After the events at the Mo Manor, Wei Wuxian seeks purpose for his newly-gifted life in becoming a rogue cultivator. Still dead to the cultivation world, disguised from old affections and acquaintances in a new appearance and mannerism, he travels the world, fighting monsters, solving cases, inventing talismans…and, somehow—do not ask him, he’s the most baffled by it all—becoming a father to children whose fates happen to intertwine with his. Amid this blissful chaos, he reconciles with past grievances, retraces old paths which the Heavens did not permit him to walk in his first life, and reacquaints himself with golden eyes, the laughter of a raddish-boy, purple lightning, and golden-clad youth.
Or, a Post-Mo Manor, Rogue Cultivator AU! where Wei Wuxian remains "dead" for a bit longer, relishing the world in Mo Xuanyu's body.
A splendidly long fic that tugged at my every heart string
I have a found family/placemaking rec List and this should be at the top-- beautiful. I am here for the 'give WWX and LWJ a flock of radishes' agenda.
Wwx acquires the most wholesome family ♡ So much love in this fic.
4. everything you love lies unbroken by Stratisphyre
Summary:
Their Chief Cultivator’s command to bring them all together seemed oddly more pointed this year than it had before. Or Nie Niubai’s had, at the very least. He suspected he hadn’t been the only one wondering why Wen Ruohan had abruptly demanded their presence in Nightless City, when such requests usually came with far more pomp and circumstance and less command.
Following an unexpected discovery at Wen Ruohan’s latest Discussion Conference, Nie Mingjue’s father changes the course of fate for many different lives.
This was such a solid story!
I love the ocs in this; Nie-zhongzu is such a free loving spirit! I adore the way the author mashed the characteristics of both Nie Mingjue and Nie Huaisang into their father
Bonus extra love for a story where wei wuxian is raised by others: this boy gets to thrive in a loving household.
BIG ouch though for the twin jades. I did cry on public transit reading this and what they go through.
5. On Little Cat Feet by deliciousblizzardshark [28,726]
Summary:
“I just spoke to Uncle,” Brother said. “He has adopted a cat.”
Lan Wangji wasn’t sure what to say. “Uncle?” he repeated, finally.
“Yes,” Brother agreed.
“Uncle does not allow pets,” Lan Wangji said.
“Yes.”
“Cats shed fur. They are dirty and have parasites. They bring in dead mice. They have litter boxes which must be emptied,” Lan Wangji recited from memory. Brother had often tried to persuade Uncle they should keep pets.
“He adopted a cat,” Brother said again.
“Perhaps he has a brain tumor.”
or
Wei Wuxian accidentally turns into a cat. Lan Qiren unknowingly adopts him.
CUUUUUUUUUUUTE!
The entire plot is - 'Is it weird that I'm dating my uncles cat?' and I'm here for it all
I love a sweet Lan Qiren!
That's what I read!
I am almost through my wangxian fics D:
I do have some Shen Yuan fics on my list and some Shen Qiao [which unfortunately I'm not feeling atm, but they will live on my mfl list for a bit].
