The work in question presents Lan Wangji in his most recognisable disposition — composed, unsuspecting, and wholly unprepared — opposite a Wei Wuxian rendered, in the opening passages, in a most literal interpretation of his customary chaos. That a man of Lan Wangji’s discipline should find his defenses so thoroughly dismantled, first by a small creature and subsequently by the creature’s equally disarming human form, is documented here with what this custodian can only describe as an utmost degree of warmth. The author’s affection for both subject and pairing is evident on every page. A most agreeable addition to the collection.

What I Read This Week: 07/19/2026

I used to work in public libraries and did a LOT of readers advisory; I miss that part of the job!

BUT; I do still read a metric shit-ton in a week. Most of it is fanfiction, but hey, I thought maybe it's time I share my reads?

This is what I read this week:

1. Peerless [Wushuang]: Chapter 26-31

Summary:

3. All The Words I Never Got To Say by Lost_Stories [125,634]

Summary:

The Meng Yao that Huaisang had loved, once upon a time. 

When Nie Huaisang inexplicably wakes up as a baby, he realises that he has a chance to change everything. Armed with the knowledge of the future, the headshaker tries to change the past.

This was such a solid fic to start my week

I love a time travel fix it, but this was a whole other level

It was raw and hard and worth it in the end

I would never have thought to pair his huaisang with meng yao, but im into it!

4. paint smears on sunny days by SnowshadowAO3 [53,808]

Summary:

To say that he runs to his car would be incorrect, as he is a Lan, and running is both undignified and unnecessary unless in immediate danger. Nor does he slam his key into the ignition, or aggressively swerve around the cars on the freeway, or have a mild panic attack at the fact he is picking A-Yuan up late from school for the first time ever.

He comes close, though.

By the time he arrives, it’s 4:35PM, and he has imagined about fifty different worse-case scenarios. The door is partly open when he gets to it, a messy label of 104B—Art Room scrawled with chalk on a placard next to the faded wood. As he opens it fully, he expects to see a wailing, terrified child, or perhaps a scene of utter misery and betrayal.

What he finds is his son, hands covered in paint, being sung to by a beautiful, dark-haired stranger.

“Ducks live in the pond, yellow ducks, happy ducks!”

Lan Wangji stops in his tracks.   (Or: Falling in love with your son’s art teacher, in five parts)

This was one of the first fics i read in this fandom. It is still one of my favs and will forever hold a place in my heart!

So sweet, so domestic, no angst to be seen

5. finally safe (for me to fall) by sassybluee [77,499]

Summary:

This is another fic i read early on in this fandom, and I adore it so much

I love a good sugar baby/sex worker to marriage pipeline fic and this is [chefs kiss]

I am also weak for a bottomji story! This one is especially tender hearted:'3

6. no one ever said the single-plank bridge had to be walked alone by rosemu [174,009]

Summary:

“Have you heard? The esteemed Second Jade of Lan, Hanguang-jun, has defected from the Lan sect! He’s living at the Burial Mounds now apparently.”

“What?! That scourge, the Yiling Patriarch, has managed to corrupt even the most ideal, upstanding cultivator. How truly terrifying!”

Lan Wangji learns to follow his heart over the rules just a little earlier and it changes some things.

Another reread of a fic that quickly became a comfort blanket ♡

This was another I read early on in my intro to the mdzs fandom

Its filled with found family, building yourself a life, and the sweetest of sweet endings ♡

7. two emperors by Rici_chan [23,812]

Summary:

Shen Yuan had transmigrated 50 years ago. As Shen Qingqiu he was in the setting of “Proud Immortal Demon Way”.

Only, he had been reborn in the body of Shen Qingqiu, future Emperor of the human realm around 50 years before the main story happened.

This was recommended to me and I am so happy I read it 🥹

I love this characterization of shen yuan; older, experienced, and so very confident. It made the dynamic with binghe so different

A stellar ending too!

8. It grows in waves and bounds by Jotem27 [36,694]

Summary:

Qiongqi Dao at the morning of Jin Ling's three month celebration:

  Lan Wangji hurriedly jumped off his sword, landed beside Wei Wuxian and caught him when he fell.

He screamed “Wei Ying!” and tumbled to his knees, his dying friend in his lap.

Wei Wuxian looked up at him, smiling with blood running out of his mouth and voiced a last low, “Lan Zhan.”

For Lan Wangji, time stood still, he could only stare at his dead friend and whisper his name again and again.

Blood from a horrid chest wound dropped onto Lan Wangji's white and azure festive robes and on the earth.

Two arrows in Wei Wuxian's chest protruded into the air.

This was surprisingly very sweet!!

I expected the major death/s[?] But I didnt expect them to be a little bit funny 😅 wwx really takes it in stride!

I also adored the changes in lan qiren- I love when this man gets a character arc

I read your comment about the WangXian ABO fics and I totally agree with you... canon LWJ would never expose their child to the same treatment that WWX suffered (Jin-Jiang=dangerous/toxic).

Ikr. How could Lan Wangji be like, letting his children be involved to JinJiang in ANY way? To let him be abused psychologically? by hearing people accusing his parent like, "Your father caused my sect to be massacred, kill my parent, my sister, blablablablaaaa, shouldn't I hate you? Shouldn't I resent you? Shouldn't you make up your father's sin to me?"

And then, let wangxian's children grow up with a burden, full of guilt, inferiority, and brainwashed to need to pay and owe JinJiang for the rest of his/her life. Bah.

hi y’all,,, i need help finding a fic again pls!!!

it’s a wangxian fic where both LWJ and WWX die on a nighthunt. at the beginning of the story they are already old but after the night hunt accident something happens that sends them back as their younger selves?? i don’t remember a lot of the details but i have a feeling that it was a time travel fic? or some kind of alternate universe travel?

also it has a very angsty chapter that stood out to me bc it showed wangxian’s oc kids that they adopted prepare their funeral and lan sizhui took it the hardest. i think there was a scene where they were in front of wangxian’s memorial tablets and his oc brother said something like “take care of each other”, which triggered even more tears from sizhui.

it was an angsty one that i really want to reread, if anyone knows the title please let me know thank u so much!!
