A couple of weeks have gone by. And I haven’t really done much to be honest. Spent time just watching anime and playing Zelda BOTW. Felt like going back to my teens, when I spent summer doing this kinds of things. The only difference is that this time I had this uneasyness at the begining because I felt guilty I wasn’t working or looking for offers. At least not in a very active way. But I decided I would just take some time off and relax. I prefer to wait for an offer that I really want instead of go straight to the first thing I find just because I want to get to work. Plus I am still hoping I will be called back to my previous company when things start moving fordward again. I was realy happy with the project I was working on, and if everything goes well I may be back soon.

Now let me explain the picture. I’ve been writting around here about my Tarot cards. But I have never actually shown anything. So here you have the design of the back side of the cards. Made it completely from scratch, even if with a clear Sakura Card Captor influence.

I had to redo it. I was lloking for a web where I could print the cards, so I have more motivation to finish them. And when I found a good page with a nice price/quality ratio I went to see the dimensions and they had nothing to do with what I had used for my layouts. So I had to redesign the back side, and adjust a little the front one. And to be honest, I´m more happy with this new composition.

I still don’t know how much time I’ll be able to spend on this project. I have like a thousand other things I want to do now that I have the time. So I probably wont be showing much of the progress on this for the rest of the year. But, good news is I went through all my fanart WIPs, and after some purge I made a list of around eight pieces I decided to finish. So I may be showing some new works soon.

Some Yongguk, cause every once in a while I just have to do a fanart of him.

I miss him. I miss BAP. and I know we won´t get them back as a group. But at least they are all doing their thing and we get to enjoy their own music (except Himchan. Anyone knows what he´s been up to? he is kind of MIA for me). And Yongguk is halfway through his military service, so yay!

I don’t know why, but I really enjoy doing him in B&W.  I think he is the only one I have done like this a couple of times. And hopefully it wont be the last.

Hope everyone is doing fine. It looks like things are starting to go back to normal. Here there’s still some time left of quarantine. But yesterday was the first day I saw some shops open besides the super market. So things are starting to move.

These are really weird times. And my futrue is still uncertain. For what I’ve heard thing will go real slow in the industry for us artists. And it looks it can take a long time before they look to hire more people again. So I’m thinking of other options outside of film. Maybe try videogames.

There was this news last week that really cheered me up though. It seems they are going to be doing a tv series of Kingdom hearts. I’m a huge fan. Like, I got a tattoo related to the series kind of fan. So imagine my excitement when I read the news. I inmediatly went to linkedin and started looking for someone who could help me get some info. Didn’t have much luck, but I’ll keep an eye open for any news related. It would be like a dream come true to work on it. And if its in japan, even better. I’ve always loved the idea of living there for a year or so. And I would be able to visit korean pretty easily too.

And I think that will be it for a while. I finished mermay (it was really a challenge. but it’s done!). But I want to take a few days of relax on the drawing part. I’m still progressing with my tarot cards. And I’m working on a WIP I had of Daehyun from ages ago. But it may take me some time to finish anything digital.

On these uncertain times, a little GD to cheer you all up. Hope everyone is doing okay!

After three years of being MIA, I’m back! And who better than GD to celebrate? Funny enough I was gone more or less as long as he was for his military service. And even though he hasn’t made a proper comeback (It’s been nearly half a year, and we are still waiting...) I decided it was time for me to, at least, try to be more present here.

I don’t know if anyone has missed me. But I certainly like to be back, because I want to use this platform as some kind of journal. With everything going on, I think it’s good to have a little record of things so in the future we can see that not everything was shit this year XD.

So, after a very long time, I checked my profile around here. And I have some updates if anyone is interested. (If not, just skip all the text bellow).

I’ve been using this account to follow artist lately, and not so much to upload my fanarts because I’m in a little hiatus on digital art. I’m trying to upgrade my sketching skills this year. And also trying to develope a personal cartoonish style. (I’m a 3D animator, so I feel it can be useful, and overall fun. So I can kill time at the office while waiting for stuff, drawing everything and anything I want.) So since the begining of the year, I’ve been doing a drawing a day. Random stuff, just anything I feel like at the moment really. Most of it fanart, and some kpop related. And I’m pleased to say that I only missed one day, and that I’m starting to see some progress already.

I´ve done some cute things I can upload here if you guys want to see them. But for now I’ll keep this account for my digital, more polished stuff.

So this means that I’m not doing any digital fanart this year. At least not on my usual style. Cause between the daily drawing, work (yes, I’m working from home for now), and life in general (even in quarantine there are a lot of things to do), I just don’t have the time or energy to spend +10 hours in a piece, which is the average time I spend in one. That’s why I’m not planning to do any big piece. But I may end up doing one or two, depending on how things go. (And if GD does a comeback, that will be  a very good reason to just lock myself one weekend and do a piece to celebrate).

But, good news is that I actually have around 10 pieces I did in the last couple of years that I never put here for some reason (honestly, I just forgot to). So in the next weeks I’ll upload a piece every monday, with a little rant, maybe telling things that happened to me these years, or just anecdotes on my quarantine.

A tribute piece  I did for Jonghyun. Rest in peace.

It´s been nearly three years since he is gone, and I still find it hard to believe it. I miss him a lot. And I know a part of me always will. We lost one of the most wonderful person in the world, and in my opinion, one of the best voices in kpop.

I can´t put to words my feelings in the matter, so I won´t even try. I just hope you like my little piece. And that it may your day at least a little bit better.

On another note, things are kind of crazy around here. Work is getting kind of unbearable, with tight deadlines, technical issues (which just won´t let me do anything sometimes), and the cherry on top, my contract is ending soon, so I have to look for other options.

Things are movng really slow here, and it seems I won´t be getting any kind extension on my contract. And since there aren´t any job offer, I´m kind of stressed out. I have other options, but I´m really not in the mood for anything at the moment. I was even looking fordward to do a personal shot at home, but Autodesk decided tha maya won´t be free anymore for personal  use and that just made me lose motivation. Of course I could try blender. But just thinking about having to learn to use a new software gives me a headache.

I´ll figure things out. I always do. But I hate this moments where the future is so uncertain. I just want it to be september already and skip all this awful months that are sure to come.

Sorry for the depressing post, but I´m really not doing that great these days. And since I decided to use this as a journal, I had to leave proof of my feelings as of now. Just so I can read it in a few months and say (hopefully) to myself  “see, everything turned out well in the end”

Another tribute I did for the anniversary.

This week has been a bit better. They’ve confirmed that I won’t be getting any contract extenssion. But I´ve come to terms with it and I´m looking for other options. Worst case scenario I will have some time to rest for the first time in 5 years and dedicate it to myself and my projects.Which, to be honest, kind of sounds like the best option right now. Any project that is hiring now will be crunch tim for sure, and I don’t know I want that. But we’ll see what happens.

In the meantime I’ll try and get back to my tarot cards whenever I can. But that will probably have to wait until next week, when I finish Mermay. It´s been a great challenge to do, but I´m starting to get tired of drawing mermaids. Next year I´ll have to prepare something different.

Regarding the lockdown, Seems there isn´t much time left until they let us go outside again. But it will be a while until things go back to normal. It will be interesting to see back to this in a few years and remember the feeling of surrealism that we all have everyday.

Anyway, next week will be my last update, cause I run out of pieces I had finished. Not sure If I´ll do new ones, or if there will be a new hiatus until I do some tarot cards. (hopefully it will be the later, cause I really want to do that project).

Another GD with really glowy hair. (The fact is I just didn’t want to render the hair, so I just made it glow and went with it.)

This is a piece I did as a background for my cintiq when I first got it. That’s the reason for it’s unusually horizontal composition, and the empty space is for my different icons for programs and such.

When I look back to when I did this fanart, it just feels so long ago. I remember I was back at my brother’s place. After a year of working in another city things got quiet in the industry, so I had to go back. And I was yet to be hired as an animator (I had done animations in the projects I was working on, but I also did a lot of other things). It just felt like no one was willing to give me a chance as a junior. At least in my country. That’s why I started applying outside.

It was really stressful. I sent my cv everywhere. Europe mostly, but also China, Canada, and I think some even in USA. I was desperate. And then, I got a job offer. And what did I do? I turned it down. And it was the best decission I could have done. Now I see it. It gave me the chance to take another job offer later in London, and that lead me to where I am. And I’ll talk about it in another post. But at that moment I felt stupid. I went with my guts, who were telling me the project wasn’t worth all the trouble of going to a small expensive city in a country that speaks a language I don’t understand. That it was too rushed (they wanted me there in like, three days basically) and that if they were so desperate, the job was going to be tight deadlines, long hours, and bad quality of animation (it was for a tv series, and they usually just want to make as many seconds per week as possible with mediocre standards). So yeah, my guts were right, and I’m so glad I followed them. Because a month later a was in London, one step closer to one of my dreams...
