What if the reason we haven’t seen him for so long is (partly) because he’s been investigating the Aurora Society and its associated organizations ever since the Campania incident?

I mean, that was only mid April 1889, and now it’s just early December of the same year.

This is not the first time that Bard and Ronald Knox have had an interaction. Sort of....

When Ronald was rushing to board the Campania, he stopped to be flirtatious with Mey-Rin. Mey-Rin was kind of flattered by it, but Bard got defensive... on her behalf.

I wonder if either of them will recall the incident or each other....
